Shocking Fatality.

YOUNG AUCKLANDER KILLED. SLAIN BY HIS OWN INVENTION. HAWERA, August 17. A shocking accident, which ended fatally, occurred at the Hawera Bacon Factory to-day. The manager, Mr Goodson, son of Mr O- Goodson, of Auckland, was about to show some visitor’s the working of a patemt lift designed by himself, and mounted the shaft for the purpose of fixing the belting. The motive power was on at the time and set the screw in motion. The screw, in its revolution, Caught the leg of Mr Goodson’s trousers and carried him round at the rate of 140 revolutions to the minute. When the turbine was stopped and the body cut down it was found that Mr Goodson’s left arm was broken, and one leg smashed to pulp. The leg was amputated, but Mr Goodson died from shock.
