Dear Bee, July 17. Some interesting lectures have been given in Napier during this week. On Monday evening Mr J. C. Westall delivered an address on “Charles Kingsley as a Teacher of Nature,” Mr E. J. Parr spoke on “Ice” at the Athenaeum Hall on Tuesday, and on Thursday evening Mr P. 6. McLean gave an intere ting discourse on “Some Great Irish Orators.” On Saturday the Hawke’s Bay hounds had a great meet at Te Onepu, but the sport was not equal to Wednesday’s performance. Mr M. E. Groom.’ entertained the hunt at luncheon. Mrs Harold Russell, Misses M. Russell, D. Robinson, Fitzßoy, L. Mason. E. Mason, Douglas, Hazeldene, Messrs Grcome (3), Kinross, White, F. Fitzßoy, 0. Nelson, R. Todd, C. White, Gregory, and Hassell were among those present. Mrs Westall gave a delightful euchre party last week at her residence on the Bluff Hill. Amongst the gut s’s were Mr and Mrs Pe ’.cock. Mr and Mrs R. B. Smith, Mr and Mrs Rns-ell Duncan, Dr. and Mrs Moore. Mrs Ed?ar. Mr and Miss Dixon, Mr and Mrs Turnbull. Misses Fannin. Rutherford, Goldsmith, E.
Humphries, and Mr Von Dadelzen. The first prises were won by Miss Goldsmith and Mr Duncan, and the booby prizes by Miss Rutherford and Mr R. B. Smith. At the golf links, in the silver belt competition, Mrs C. Cato was successful, Mrs A. A. Kennedy was second, and Miss Eva Bennett third. This was the third contest for the belt. Tea was given by Mrs Pharazyn. Mesdames Perry, IL Smith, McLean, Davidson, Tylee, Gordon, Lake, Misses Page, Chapman, Twigg, Williams, Shand, Hall, were amonsr those present.
