Dear Bee, July 7. Ou Monday and Tuesday, the 29th and 30th, Mrs Neligan held her first "At Home” days in New Zealand. A large number of people availed themselves of the first opportunity of calling upon the new Bishop and bis wife. SH A KESPERE SOCIETY. The inaugural meeting of the Auckland Shakespcre Society was held in the Alasonic Hall, Prinees-street on Thursday evening. The play selected for this reading was "Twelfth Night,” and the expectations of the large audience were more than realized. With such talent as was cast for the piece, it is a pity entertainments of this kind are not inorc frequent, and we hope this one is but the precursor ot many to follow. One and all of the readers showed more than usual aptitude for the parts they took, and made the performance both enjoyable and instructive. There were six tables, and play was kept up till about 10.30 o'clock, when the guests adjourned for supper. The table was decorated with yellow jonquils, and was laden with tempting things. The winners of the first prizes were Miss Beatrice Bleazard Brown and Air Kenneth Hume, and the booby prizes fell to Airs Bevins and Air G. Otway. Dr. and Mrs Coates gave a very delightful LITTLE IMPROMPTU DANI E at their pretty residence. “East Dene.” Alount Eden. There were about 50 couples present, and as the floor and music were both good, everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. A very dainty supper was provided, the tables being beautifully decorated with yellow flowers and grasses. For (he benefit of those who prefer to sit out and talk occasionally, the verandah was closed in and artistically' hung with flags.
