Magistrate (to new member of the force): “Did you not notice any suspicious persons on your beat last night?” Constable: “No, yer honor! I saw but one man, and I axed him what he was doing there that toime o’ night, and says he: “I am going to open a jewellery store in the vicinity later on.” Magistrate:’ “What did you say to him?” Constable: “Shure, I wished him success, your honor!” Magistrate: “He did have success, too! He broke into a shop and stole a large amount of jewellery.” Constable (scratching his head): “Begorra, your honor, the man moight have been a thief, but he was no loiar!”
