“What a nice little boy he is, Mrs. Rooney!” said the visitor, as she patted the youngster’s cheek, the proud mother, teh proud mother.
"This is the time when our ideas are ail formed, Mrs Rooney,” continued the lady visitor. "When wc are children our characters are shaped by what goes on around us. And if we ha.e good parents, who try to bring us up in the proper way, we escape the evil intiuenc? of bad surroundings. But lam afraid that some of the people in this neighbourhood are not very good.” Mrs Rooney remained sil nt. The visitor coughed and went on: "Of course, you are bringing him up properly, and showing what he is to do when he grows up?” “Av course, mim!” answered Mrs. Rooney confidently. "Why, it was only last night Oi hild him up to the windy to watch his fayther fight a p licemin in the strate!”
