Before they had gone very far Hughes grasped him toy the arm, and pointed into the heart of the wood. They both stopped, and saw in the distance the strands of the giant web like fine threads against a clear piece of sky. In their centre was a large, dark patch with four arms or legs, like the figure of a man clinging to a wall, and, as they looked at it, it seemed as though the limbs moved. Nearer the edge of the patch were four other patches, but these were motionless. The sight reminded them horribly of a spider and four dead bluebottles.
