The football championships were advanced another stage on Saturday, when the sixth round of matches was played at A exandra Park aud at the North Shore. On the No. 1 ground at Alexandra Park a hardfought tussle between Grafton and Newton ended In a victory for the former by three poins to nil. Suburbs defeated Parnell on the No. 2 ground by six points to three, the latter team registering its first score of the season: while at the Shore City romped over the home team by thirty-one points to three. Flett, of the City team, had his collar-bone broken. First-class form was shown by Laudy, Flett, Foster, and Phillips. In the junior grade City defeated West by 6 points to 3. PAEROA. The Rugby Union matches were continued on Saturday afternoon, East and Suburbs meeting for the second time. The game was an interesting one, the passing of the East backs and the forward rushes of Suburbs making some exciting play. East eventually won by 12 to 3, Sherson and XV.. Perfect weather conditions prevailed for Saturday afternoon's senior matches, but the turf on Athletic Park had suffered from the late raius. Wallace converted. Poneke had the upper hand throughout in the succeeding half. Petone 8, Old Boys 6, Oriental 4, Wellington 2, Athletic nil. CHRISTCHURCH FOOTBALL. The weather was splendid for Saturday afternoon’s football, but the grounds at Lancaster Park were very heavy, in consequence of the recent Lad weather. The attendance at the Park was the largest seen this season, the draw being the match between Albion and Christchurch, the leading teams. The sum of £42 1/9 was taken at the gates. Tao match provided a very interesting exhibition. Albion won by 10 points to 3, and thus secured a lead of half n point from Sydenham. Sydenham beat Canterbury College by tw’elve points to nil, and Merivale beat Old Hoys by 14 points to 10. Linwood met Lyttelton at Lyttelton, and won by 36 points to nil. DUNEDIN* FOOTBALL.
