Dear Bee, May 13. The first of the winter danees held at the Foresters’ Hall, Dickens-street, last Friday, was a complete success. The large hall was beautifully decorated and the music was excellent. There were a large number of guests, including Mrs Peacock, in a very dainty gown of white silk, the skirt trimmed with lace flounces and lace and chiffon on the bodiee; Aliss AlcLernon was admired in pink silk with innumerable flounces on the skirt, and a long black sash; Aliss Todd had a very pretty pale blue dress; Airs Newton looked well in a black satin and net costume; Aliss Dulcie Kennedy, had a white dress, and a pale green sash; Aliss Hoadley was in black satin; Aliss Kathleen Hoadley, pale blue crepe de chine, with cream lace on the skirt and bodice; Aliss AlcA'ay was in cream and pale blue; Aliss F. Margoliouth wore green and pink; Miss Goldsmith had a white silk costume, the bodice trimmed with chiffon. and a pale green sash; Aliss Martin looked well in black; Airs Bradley, stylish pink silk dress; Aliss Cornford wore pale blue; Aliss Fannin was in white silk. A successful bazaar on a small scale was conducted by the Rev. Allan Gardiner in the Public Hall, Havelock, on Saturday last. The bazaar was in aid of the funds of St. Luke’s Church. The stalls were prettily decorated and cover-

ed with a great variety of articles, the most popular being the well made children's and babies’ clothes, warm pelisses, hoods, etc. Pincushions, paintings, china toys, etc., were quickly sold. The sale was very well attended. The following were the stallholders: Mesdames Gardiner, Bateman, Conroy, Cushing, Fulford, Prewitt, Sturm, Greig. Ellison, Rich. Dunn, Liley, Misses Douglas. Faulkner, Williams, Weaver. Allan, Chambers, Goddard, Dunn, Maddison, Prewitt, Sturm, Gilpin, Cook and Neagle.

The first competition for a silver belt given by Mrs T. H. Lowry took place on Saturday on the Waiohiki Golf Links, and was won by Miss Kennedy with • —20—64. Mrs Hector Smith played very steadily, and was second with 71— 5—66. The next best scores were as follows: Mrs Donnelly, 74—8 —66; Miss L. Davis, 91—24—67; Miss Eva Bennett, 80—12 —68; Miss Chapman, 82—12—70; Mrs Perry, 70, add 2—72. The first round for the president’s trophy was played by the men, and was won by Mr H. Peacock with 94—3—91. There was a large attendance at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Taradale, on Wednesday, on the occasion of the concert given in aid of the Greenmeadows Bowling Club. Many well known performers assisted in the programme, which was of a miscellaneous character. Amongst those who contributed musical items were Misses King, Stuart, Benson, Staunton, Messrs Renouf, Bear, Freedman. O’Shannassey, etc.
