NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION. A < • ANNUAL MEETING. i j " WELLINGTON, May 1. Tho annua! meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union was held this evening. The Chairman said the proposal to send a New Zealand team home involved a big undertaking, but there was no reason why the scheme should not be brought to a successful issue next year. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: Patron, Lord Ranfurly (subject to acceptance); president. Mr G. F. C. Campbell (Wellington); secretary, Mr A. C. Norris (re-elected); treasurer, Mr I. Hyams (re-elected): committee of management, Messrs G. IF Dixon, G. C. Fache, A. ('ampbell. W. Coffey, R. D. Isaacs. 1». D. Weir, and A. Laurenson. Mr De Costa (Taranaki) moved, “That in the opinion of this union it Is desirable in the interest of the game that the larger unions, when applied to. should assist the country unions by allowing a reasonable percentage of gate receipts towards representatives’ travelling expenses, and that this expression of opinion be conveyed to all affiliated unions.” The motion was lost. In to a question, the secretary stated that the union bad asked affiliated unions to forward the names of players who were willing to go Home as New Zealand representatives on. condition that tho rules as to professionalism wore complied with. Replies received up to the present were to the following effect: Auckland, forwards 8, backs 4: Canterbury, forwards 4. backs 5; Marlborough. forward 1; Manawatu, forward 1, backs 4; South Canterbury, fonvards 2, backs 3; total, forwards 16, backs 16. As regards financing the tour no definite proposals ha<; yet been made pending the receipt of reliable information as to the probable amount of gate n-ceipts. It would be a matter for the incoming committee to continue negotiations, and devise some scheme for sending a team. Last year ho hud stated that a gentleman in Wellington was willing to assist the project .to the extent of £2OOO, and he had no doubt the offer was still good. Mr Murray moved a resolution to the effect that the Management Committee be instructed to appoint a selection committee for the teams for the North v. South Island match, and the Australian and English tours. The motion was carried.
