In connect ion with the University students’ carnival, which has attracted n great amount of social interest in Auckland, during the past few’ days A BALL was given in St. Benedict's Hall on Monday evening. The function, which was the first of the kind thia season, set a very high standard of excellence for its aucrofwora. The hall was strikingly decorated with bunting and nikau. The

night was pleasantly cool, and dancing was kept up with the greatest spirit to the strains of Mr Lanigan’s excellent band till an early hour. There was what is somewhat unusual in Auckland almost an equality in the numbers of the sexes, and full programmes seemed to be the order of the evening. The supper was an exceptionally good one, and the committee on whose shoulders the task fell of organising the dance are fairly to be congratulated on what was an undoubted and deserved success.

took place on Saturday on the Eden and Epsom Club’s lawns. The weather was simply magnificent; if it had been made to order it could not have been better.
