Major-General Babington has returned to Wellington after a tour of inspection in five North Island, principally in the Hawke’s Bay district.

Mrs Duncan Cameron (Methven) returned to Christchurch last week from England via Australia. The Misses Cameron remained at Home at school.

Hovell and Lascelles, who have been spending their leave in Napier, left by tike Westralia for Sydney, ea route for England, where they rejoin their regiments. Mr and Mrs Harold Light, of Nelson hare been staying in Napier. Mr Light presided at the organ at both the morning and evening services in the Cathedral on Sunday.

The Rev. W. and Mrs Knowles (Pigeon Bay) have been visiting Christchurch this week, and are the guests of Canon and Mrs Knowles, Gloucester-street.

Mr and Mrs Joseph Haydon have taken “Hawkesbury,” the residence of the Hon. J. T. Peacock, St. Albans, for a year. Mr and Mrs Peacock intend to travel for a time.

Mr and Mrs Henry, on the occasion of their departure from Balclutha to Auckland, were presented by their friends with a purse of sovereigns and a lady’s companion.

The Rev. R. J. Allsworth lias left Picton for the North, where he intends to reside With his children in future. His successor will shortly be appointed.

At his own request Lieut.-Colonel Owen, of the New Zealand Defence Staff, has been placed on the retired list of the Imperial army, with the Tank of major.

Mr John Holmes has left for Australia and New Zealand by the Omrah. Lord Northland and Mr. R. Wynn Kirkby are passengers by the same boat.

Mrs Graham Anderson (WellingMr Collins (Napier) and Mr Seed (Wellington) are enjoying a holiday in Christchurch and staying at Miss Lean's, Cambridge Terrace, East.

Mr Aylmer Kenny, of Queen Charlotte Sound. has been appointed ranger for the Sounds district. The preservation of native bush is the primary object of his appointment. Miss Gladys Thomas, Christchurch, has gone on a visit to Waimate, and will break the journey on her way home at “Hackworth" for a week or two.

Among the passengers from Sydney to Auckland by the Sierra last week, were Major Whitney, of the Colonial Ammunition Company, and Miss Whitney, who have been to Australia o-n a trip.

The English cricketers left Wellington on Monday for Carterton, where they play Wairarapa. On Sunday afternoon both teams and their friends were entertained by Mr H. Ik Bell, at Lowry Bay, where a very pleasant afternoon was spent.

Mr R. Whittingham, brewer, of Gore, is now on his way to the Old Country with the designs of an air ship, his own invention, which he intends to float in England. Prior to his departure he was presented with a purse of sovereigns by the business community of Gore.

Mr W. Nosworthy, Town Clerk of Blenheim, was so seriously ill that the doctors prescribed a long rest from work, and his brother, Mr R. D. Nosworthy, has been appointed pro tem. in his stead. Many friends wish Mr Nosworthy a speedy recovery.

The many patients and friends of Dr. Henry de Renzi, Wellington, the well-known surgeon, Who has been indisposed through overwork for several months, will be glad to learn that he has so far recovered as to be able to resume the consulting room portion of his work. We hope he will soon be sufficiently well to again undertake the onerous duties of his practice.
