WANGANUI.

Dear Bee, January 3. Since last writing to you the old year has passed away, aud although I ought to be able to tell you many things that have happened during the holidays, things have been so quiet and 1 slack that one hardly realises that there has been a holiday at all.

On New Year's Day arrangements had been made for a big floral fete, and had it not been for the wretched weather it would have been a great success, as everything in connection with it was so well managed, and in spite of the rain those who ventured out were _ well satisfied with what they saw.

The Leigh-Douglas Company have had a very fair season in Wanganui, and some of their performances have been much enjoyed. To-night they are playing’ “The Soldier Boy.” The performance will be under the patronage of the English cricketers. The English Xi. commence their match with Wanganui clubs, and Mrs James Watts is providing afternoon tea to the visitors. If the weather holds fine there will no doubt be a large crowd, as great disappointment was felt at having to stay indoors on New Year’s Day.

Mr D. Miller, assistant inspector in connection with the Postal Department in the Auckland district, and formerly of Napier, has been appointed chief postmaster at Wanganui, vice Mr J. F. Mcßeth. Mr T. S. Henderson is coming to Wanganui to umpire in the cricket match against Lord Hawke's team. Mr W. H. Field. M.H.R., is at present on a visit to Wanganui. Miss Pickering has left for Wellington. Mr Christie and family left yesterday by mail train to Plimmerton, to spend their summer holidays.
