Mrs J. P. Newman, Timaru, is staying with Mrs Garrick, “Orwell,’’ this week.

The Rev. Mr Isaacson, the new vicar of Bulls. Rangitikei, arrived from England in the Papanui. Mrs J. T. Matson, who has been spending some weeks in Nelson, has returned to Christchurch. Mr C. G. Matson has returned to Chriftchurch from a trip to England very much benefited by the change. Mrs Nivens (Wairarapa) is in Wellington, staying with her parents, Archdeacon and Mrs Fancourt.

Mr John Duncan was tendered a banquet on Thursday at the Criterion Hotel by his Blenheim supporters. Mrs George Cawte. Mahakipawa. has gone North to visit Mrs John Cawte, and Mrs Kummer. The Bishop of Wellington and Mrs Wallis left on Saturday by the Sydney steamer on their way to England.

Mr and Mrs H. C. Seymour and family intend returning to i’icton to five, leaving the run “Tyntesfiekl” in the care of a manager.

The Hon. C. H. Mills. Mrs and the Misses Mills, returned to Wellington last week, after a visit to Marlborough.

Mr H. S. McKellar. from Palmerston. is in New Plymouth to meet his brother, to celebrate their jubilee in the Taranaki district.

Mr. Henry Lawson, the Australian poet, fell 90ft down the cliffs at Manly Beach, and broke his ankle and injured his head.

Mrs Neill, who is on a visit to NewZealand from South Africa, is at present spending a little time with old friends in Waikato.

South Africa, where he intend* to aettle.

Mr Alfred Hill, the well-known musician, who recently returned from Australia, intends to reside in Palmerston North, instead of in Wellington, his former home. Mr Th. de Sehryver. of Toronto, Canada, visited Wellington recently in connection with a scheme of reciprocal commerce between Canada and Australasia, in which the Canadian Government is interested.

Mrs Draper, hostess of the Club Hotel, Blenheim, has returned from a trip to Australia. Mrs Draper, who is well-known and much respected all over Marlborough, has been tendered a hearty welcome home by many friends.

The Rev. Mr Kitcat, the newlyappointed vicar of St. Cuthbert’s Church, Eketahuna. is expected to arrive from Honolulu early in February, and will take up his duties at once.

Mr Harold Gregson arrived in Napier from England lass week to take up his duties as organist and choirmaster of SL Paul's Presbyterian Church there in place of Mr Renaud, who has resigned the position.

Mr and Mrs Frank Baden-Powell will visit New Zealand in the course of their tour round the world, for which they recently left their home in London. Mrs F. Baden-Powell (nee Miss Florence Watt) is the daughter of Mrs J. H. Coleman, of Napier.

The Premier arrived at Christchurch from Wellington on Friday, in order to see his daughter, Mrs Bean, who is suffering from appendicitis. The doctors are not apprehensive, and expect that the patient wiU have fairly recovered ten days after the operation. It was reported last evening at Christchurch that she is considerably better. Otho Fitzgerald returned to the colony last week by the Papanui, after over a year's absence in England and Central Africa.
