Bis Excellency the Governor and the Countess of Ranfurly are the guests of Tx»rd and Lady Tennyson at the Acting-Governor-General’s house in Sydney. Mrs. Jeffcoat (Wellington) is on a irisit to Sydney. Miss Simpson and Miss Reid (Wellington) are visiting Auckland. Miss Waldegrave (Wellington) has gone on a trip to Sydney. Dr. and Mrs. Dawson Henry (Wellington) are spending a fortnight in Wanganui. Dr. Cahill (Wellington) is away on * holiday, and Dr. Baldwin is acting as locum teneus. Colonel Porter and his daughter, Mrs. Howie, are expected back In the Tongariro. Mr. Justice Williams and Mrs. Williams (Dunedin), are staying at Miss Malcolm’s, Wellington. Miss Cowling, who has been living for some time in New Plymouth, has gone to reside in Christchurch. Mrs. Cleghorn has returned to Wanganui after a short visit to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Wood, Christchurch, have gone to spend a few weeks at “Swyncombe,” Kaikoura. Messrs. L. and V. Renneli. and Miss G. Morey, all of New Plymouth, are on a visit to Auckland. Mrs R. B. Lusk left Auckland on Sunday last on a visit to her parents in New Plymouth. Judge Butler, of the Native Land Court, left Auckland for Wellington on Monday. Mr and Mrs J. Gould, Christchurch, have gone on a visit to the Southern Lakes. Mrs Cartwright (Timaru) is staying with Mrs Elworthy, Papanuiroad, Christchurch. Miss Jacob, who has been visiting Rotorua, has returned to her home in New Plymouth. Miss Nellie Rose, who has been in Auckland staying with 'her sister, Mrs. Houghtoa, for some months, is on a visit to Wellington. Miss Dyer has gone to Sydney to meet Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dyer, who are returning to New Zealand by the Suez route. Mr. G. G. Stead passed through Wellington lately on his way back from Rotorua, where he has been making a short, stay. Mr. W. Gray, who has been on a flying trip to New Plymouth for the opening of the new post office, has returned to Wellington. Miss E. Chaytor (Blenheim) passed through Wellington last week on her w<ay to Christchurch, where she is visiting relatives and friends. Mr. R. Miller, of the Wellington branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been, appointed manager of the new branch just opened at Rotorua. Mr and Mrs Norman Macbeth returned to Christchurch from a trip to Sydney last Friday, very glad to leave such a warm country. Mr. and Mrs. T. IL Lowry passed through Wellington recently on their way home to Hawke's Bay after a visit to England. Mrs F. J. Garrick returned to Christchurch on Monday from Timaru, where she had- been spending a few weeks with her daughter, Mrs J. P. Newman. , Miss Paton, of .Auckland, who has been paying a visit to her sister-in-law, Mrs. Paton, of New Plymouth, is now visiting her many friends in Wellington. Mr., Mrs. and Miss Ronalds, who returned to Christchurch last week a.fter an extended visit to England of nearly two years, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. Cotterill, Fendalton. Bishop Julius returned to Christehurch on Thursday from the Anglican Conference in Adelaide, Mrs Julius staying for a few weeks longer •st the benefit of the change.

Mr Carter, of the Union S.S. Company, has been transferred from the Auckland to the Melbourne office, and left Auckland, with his wife, by Monday's steamer. Mrs F. O. Jacobs arrived by the Waikare from Sydney last week, and intends spending the summer months with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. M. Brigham, of '‘Marino,” Parnell. The marriage of Mr. R. Levin (Wellington) and Miss Nora Riddiford (Wairarapa) will take place from the residence of the bride’s uncle, Mr. Edward Riddiford. Lower Hutt, Wellington, at an early date. Mr and Mrs Seymour Thorne George, Miss Thorne George, and Miss Zoe Thorne George, of Auckland, have returned from their trip to Europe. Mr Thorne George looks completely restored to health. Mr G. G., Mrs and Miss Stead returned to Christchurch on Tuesday from Rotorua and Auckland. . I am sorry to say Mr Stead, has not thoroughly recovered yet from his rheumatic attack. Captain Earle Johnston, eldest son of the Hon. C. J. Johnston, is on a visit to his relatives in Wellington, having obtained long leave from his regiment, which has been on active service in South Africa. At the final meeting of the season of the St. John Ambulance Nursing Guild, Wellington, Mr. Rhodes was re-elected president, Mrs. C. J. Johnston vice-president. Hr. Elizabeth Platts-Mills hon. surgeon, and Nurse Sexton lady superintendent. A sub-committee was appointed to raise funds for providing a professional nurse for work among the poor, several donations and subscriptions were promised, and Mrs. C. J. Johnston undertook to get up a dance in aid of the project. Dr. Hamilton-Gilmer, who has been eight years in England studying medicine and gaining professional experience, is returning to the colony by the Tongariro. Dr. Gilmer has married during his stay in the Old Country, and intends to take up practice in Wellington. Mr and Mrs W. G. Roberts and little girl returned to Christchurch on Friday last after a delightful trip to England. Mr Roberts revisited his old home in Cornwall, and was in London for the Coronation festivities; he also saw as much as possible of dentistry up-to-date -while in London. Mr and Mrs. C. Wood reached Christchurch on Thursday after a seven or eight months’ trip to England, where they saw much, also a good many New Zealanders. They have enjoyed greatly the sights, but feel rather tired out, and glad to settle down. They immediately left for their home in Kaikoura. Very great regret was felt in Wellington at. the death of Mr. Charles R. Bidwill, of Tawaha. Wairarapa, at the early age of Ail. One of the keenest of sportsmen, a most popular and respected employer, and a warm and sincere friend. The late Mr. Bidwill’s loss will be felt deeply throughout the Wairarapa and adjacent districts. Nurse Peiper, of Invercargill, who has just returned to the colony after two years and a-half in South Africa, during which time she was engaged in nursing the wounded and sick, has been presented by the townspeople of Invercargill with a gold bangle, and two valuable rings as a mark of their esteem. In one of Lord Kitchener’s most recent despatches he speaks very highly of Nurse I’eiper’s ability and devotion to her work. During his_ stay tn Auckland the Hon. the Premier, Mrs Seddon, the Misses Seddon. and the Ministerial party all put up at. the Star Hotel, at which favourite hostelry there were also a very large number of New Zealand, Australian and Old World visitors, besides several from the U.S.A.
