Hesketli. t hr 'h ell-known grower of the lovely daffodil, took two firsts, his* blooms being exceedingly good as usual. The New Zealand Literary and Historical Society intend having a daffodil evening Friday- next, when 500 blooms will be staged nt the Auckland Chess Club Rooms. For the information of intending growers, daffodil bulbs should be

planted about the middle of February each year; they are quite .easy to grow and of exceeding beauty in our gardens. An amateur suggests the name “Captain McQueen” or “Coronation" for the splendid Ajax seedling, and gives a few names of daffodils in bloom September 5, for information -of novices. _ - - • Medio Coronati Class.—Le’edsi Amabilis, Flora Wilson, Colonel Backhouse Minnie Hume, Orphee. • Ajax, big Trumpet Class.—Henry Irving, Empress, Emperor, Princeps, Sir Watkin, Dean Herbert.
