Presentation to Mr. Seddon.

On this page we give a photograph of the silver centre-piece recently presented in London to the Hon. 11. J. Seddon by his Anglo-New Zealand admirers. The gift, which , has been manufactured by Mr. Erank Hyams, is a handsome and artistic piece of work. From a solid silver base rises a high pedestal, on whose summit is a New Zealand rifleman on horse-back. The four corners of the pedestal are guarded by four vigorous lions stalking stealthily forward on rocky ground and the front and back by New Zealand soldiers, rifle in hand, standing at ease. The side? of the pedestal pre occupied by two scroll plates, behind which are the crossed Union Jack and New Zealand ensign in rich enamel. Above the plate on the obverse are the Royal Arms in enamel, above that on the reverse an embossed laurel wreath. On the obverse the plate bears the inscription:—“Presented to the Right Honourable Richard John Seddon, Premier of New Zealand, by many friends, in appreciation of his services to the Empire. London, 15th July, 1902.” In the reverse plate are New Zealand scenes. The whole centrepiece weighs 500 oz, and stands on a polished ebony plinth.

Mrs Seddon was presented with three diamond stars, which can be worn altogether as a tiara, or each separately as a star for the hair, a brooch or a pendant. These are also the work of Mr. Frank Hyams.
