NELSON.
Dear Bee. January 13. At Wakefield last week SurgeonMajor Fearless was entertained right royally on the eve of his departure for Christchurch to join the Eighth Contingent. of which he has been appointed Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Fearless has been a resident in Wakefield for many years, and has won the esteem ami goodwill of all around him, and the residents rose to the occasion ami gave the popular doctor a real good send off, which must have been most gratifying to him. On Wednesday evening he was entertained at a SOCIAL AND DANCE, which was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, and arranged by the ladies of Wakefield. 'There was a large and representative attemtance, Colonel Pitt, of Nelson, being amongst those present. Songs were sung by Misses Cole. Morrison. McCormick. Colonel Pitt and Mr. F. .Brown, and Miss Daisy Knapp played a pianoforte solo. Dancing was kept up with much spirit till early morning. At the close cheers were given for Surgeon Major and Mrs. Pearless and others, and the most enjoyable and success ful evening was brought to a elose by singing the National Anthem.
