Dear Bee. January 14. The party of ladies and gentlemen who came from AA'ellington to take part in a tennis tournalnent with some members of the Marlborough Tennis Club, arrived by a late train, and were entertained at supper by Airs Anderson, who had invited a few others to meet them. These were: —Mr and Airs Griffiths, Air and Mrs Fish, the Aliases Greenfield (3),

and Anderson, and Messrs F. Greenfield, L. Griffiths. H. Anderson, etc. The next day the tournament t«M>k place, in which the visitors defeated our players. The Wellington ladies were Mrs Holmes and the Misses Kennedy (2). the former staying with Miss Anderson, and the latter with Mrs Griffiths. Though it has been the custom for many years for a tennis parry to visit us during the New Year holidays, this is, 1 believe, the first time that ladies have been included, but they contributed greatly, bv their capital play, to the s. cress of* the parly. The lady members of the club provided luncheon and afternoon tea. which was temptingly set out in the pavilion, and visitors and club members were entertained in the evening at ‘‘The Barton” by Mr and Mrs Griffiths, music and ping-pong forming the amusements. Sone* of those watching the tournament were: - Dr. and Mrs Anderson. Mr and Mrs Griffiths, Mr and Mrs Orr. Mr and Mrs Fish, Mr and Mrs Vickers. Mr and Mrs Coomb, Mrs Waddy. Mr and Mrs F. Greenfield. Mr and Mrs Cecil Adams (Wellington), Mrs Adams, the Misses Horton (>), Moynihan (Nelson). Francis (Wellington). Greenfield (2), ami hosts of others. The rule has been for the gentlemen visitors to invite local friends to a picnic the day after the matches, but on this occasion the weather was unpropitious. so instead they invited a few. among whom were Mr and Mrs Griffiths.
