Dear Bee, January 12. Mrs Thomas Peacock gave a very large _ _ _ GARDEN PARTY nt her beautiful residence. "Fairview,” Ponsonby, last Thursday afternoon. The weather in the morning did not look very promising for aq outdoor function, and many were the predictions offerer! by some of the weather wise folks that a downpouq was imminent. However, to the relief of the invited guests, towards the afternoon the wind veered to a more favourable quarter, the clouds dispersed, the .sky taking a less angry appearance, aud al times the sun came out, though the wind was still very boisterous. “Fairview,” with its piotnresque surroundings, freshened by the recent rain, was looking at Its best. A band was stationed on the trim lawn, whence they enlivened the proceedings with a concourse of sweet sounds, notably selections of the newest and most popular airs. Air and Mrs Peacock, ably assisted by their two daughters, received the guests in front of the house. A large marquee was erected, where afternoon refreshments were dispensed, such as strawberries and cream, trifles, jellies, cakes, accompanied with the indispensable bohea. The tables were decorated with blue, hydrangea and white agapanthus. AT HOME last Friday afternoon, at her residence, “Alarivare,” Epsom. The weather fortunately kept fine, though windy it was warm. It was a great success. Miss Alice Hollander, who arrived by the Mararoa last Sunday, held a large reception in the Choral Hall on Monday afternoon, which was very fashionably attended.
