AUCKLAND.

Dear Bee, December 23. "A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!” How often and how lightly the words fall from one's lips, and yet what better wish could we give a friend than this, so carelessly expressed. This festive season is a time when care must be thrown to the winds, and our attention solely given to making ourselves and everyone round us as happy as possible, and I hope the Christmas now upon vs will not only be a happy one to all my readers, but the. happiest they have yet seen. The recent rains have refreshed the earth, and we shall have a green Christmas, bright with flowers. May bright sunshine favour cur holiday picnics by sea and stream, and in the shadowy woodland, and may sunshine in the heart make this a season of rejoicing for each one. This is my earnest wish. THE NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALASIAN AMATEUR ATHLETIC SPORTS. were held on the Domain on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday of last week, and proved a highly successful gathering.
