The verandah was canvassed in and comfortably arranged with chairs, and the French doors thrown open so that, 'those outside, could hear the music in the drawing-room. The members of the Ponsonby Shakespere Society concluded their series of social evenings on Tuesday, November sth, at “Motu Rakau,” the residence of Mr and Mrs Hemus, Ponsonby Road. Being the last night, the party stayed an hour or two later than usual, and after 11 o’clock the evening was pleasantly spent with music and the new game, “PingPong.” “The Merchant of Venice” was read by the members of the Society, and thoroughly enjoyed by all those present. The pupils of the Auckland Grammar School held their annual sports on the Domain Cricket Ground on Tuesday afternoon last. The weather was favourable for most of the day, but the pleasure of the large attendance of spectators was somewhat marred by the drizzling rain which fell towards the end of the afternoon.
