Tasmania is coming to the front as a producer of operatic artists. Following Lempriere Pringle, one hears now that Miss Jeannie Bateman, a Tasmanian, studying at the Royal Academy. played Frederic in a students' performance of "Mignon” in London last month. Miss Addie Place, another Tasmanian singer, now of the MoreH-Mouille: Opera Company, is reported to be engaged to Mr George Yates, a son of an old English actor.
