Dear Bee. May 27. The 24th May was observed here as a holiday in memory of our late beloved Queen. The weather at first was showery, but afterwards a strong ftpui h-westerly wind sprang up, which blew the clouds away, but was very cold. A large number of people weal io Motueka. where a most successful military display was held, in which many of the Nelson volunteers took part. Other pleasure were fairly well patronised, but to numv the day was a sad one. One missed the firing 01 the Royal salute and general rejoicings that have taken place on lh*.s date for so many previous years. On Thursday evening a very enjoyable little D \NCE was given for young people by Mrs Booth, at her residence at the Union Bank of Australia. The hostess wore a becoming evening blouse of light blur silk, with chi if on trimmings, trained skirl of grey satin; Miss Booth looked well in a frock of deep yellow, trimmed with lace and narrow black velvet; Miss Hubbard, pretty white evening dressZ relieved with green - ribbons. - Amongst the guests were noticed MisS Dorothy Bel!, pretty gown of pale blue silk, trimmed with chiffon; Miss C. Edwards, soft white silk; Miss Ellis looked well in pink, with lace fichu; hei sister wore green, trimmed with orca tn lace; Miss Phyllis Fell, buttercup silk; Miss Fell (Pieton), white muslin and lace; Miss Mabel Glasgow. smart evening dress of blue silk, relieved with white lace; Miss Vera Leggatt, soft white silk, with touch of sapphire blue velvet on bodice: Miss E. Ledger, pale green silk; Miss Joy Ledger, white silk and lace; Miss Madge Mackay, pink evening dress; Miss Maginnity. bright pink, with white lace trimmings; Miss* Paine, blur silk; Miss E. Sealy, while muslin and lace; Miss Tomlinson. white muslin, relieved with pink; Miss Trent, white silk with triinTnings of pink chiffon: Miss Willis (Wellington) pink and white muslin; Miss M. Robinson wore yellow, relieved with black velvet. Others present were Messrs. Adams (2), Blundell. Edwards, Fell. Hursthouse, Houlker (2). Hay tor. Moore (2), Prefthaw, Robinson. Rowley.
