(DELATED.) Dtw Bee, April 22. The Operatic Society met last week ami decided to practise “Les Cloches de Corneville,” but the parts have not yet been allotted. The opera is very popular and should attract good audiences. Miss Waddy has issued invitations to a series of Cinderella Assemblies, to be held in Ewart’s Hall during the winter, and beginning on May 3rd. Other dances are being talked of, and the Garrison Band is already making arrangements for a ball, to be held on May Bth. the proceeds of which will be devoted to the Uniform Fund. There was no excitement over the municipal election, as both Mayorelect and Councillors were unopposed.

Mr R. Mi-Artutt having declined to offer himself for re-election, Mr It. McCallum was elected sis. Mayor, and Messrs W. E. Clouston, W. Ching’, W. 11. Macey, E. James. E. 11. Penney, C. Purkiss, J. H. Scott, R. F. Priddle, anil R. H. Smale as Councillors.

At the late meeting of the members of the Horticultural Society it was decided to hold the Autumn and Chrysanthemum Show early in May. The Picton Society has chosen an earlier date, and will ojen tLeir show- next Wednesday. April 24th. An application has been made, through Captain Wolfe, to the Minister for Defence, to ask him to accept the services of a Cadet Corps in connection with the High School, which is approved by Dr. Innes, the headmaster. Fifty-two scholars are now enrolled at the High School, thirty-two of whom are boys, which is under the number demanded by the regulations, but. however, further consideration will be given to the application.

Mr Ernest Rose, bandmaster to the Garrison Band, lias been invited to join the Wellington Garrison Band for its trip to Melbourne with the Federal Contingent, and left here last Wednesday-.

1 hear that the young men at Spring Creek have realised that they have a splendid river for rowing purposes in the Wairau River, and have decided to start a rowing duh. and with that object in view are canvassing the district. FRIDA.
