The French Consul (Count de Courte) and the Countess <le Courte left Wellington on Thursday by tue Mokoia for Christchurch, and also intend extending their trip to Dunedin and the Southern Lakes. Sir William Murton, solicitor to the British Hoard of Trade, is paying a visit to New Zealand, having arrived in Wellington on Wednesday last from Sydney. Captain Fulton, of the Fourth New Zealand Contingent in South Africa, who was invalided to New Zealand recently. leaves again next week for India, in order to rejoin his regiment. Mrs. Barker (Hawke's Bay) is spending some weeks in Wellington with her mother. Mrs. G. Cooper, at Karori. with her little children.

Dr. and Mrs. Young (Wellington) leave for a trip to England this month in the Gothic, the doctor of that vessel having changed places with him during his absence from Wellington. Mr.. Mrs. and Miss Malet. Christchurch. are in Wellington this week, and are staying at Miss Malcolm’s on the Terrace.

Miss Tabart. who has been staying with Mrs. Rhodes in Wellington, left for Christchurch last week, having been sent for in consequence of the serious iMness of her father.

Mr. ami Mrs. Alister Clark (Australia) are the guests of her brother. Miami Mrs Beaton Rhodes, at Tai Taipa. Taihuna.

Mrs. Levin (Wellington) ami her daughter are spending a short visit to friends in Christchurch this month.

Lieutenant Collins, who was severely wounded in South Africa, arid is now on furlough from his regiment in Wellington, recently underwent another operation at the Wellington Hospital, and Dr. Ewart has now great hopes of his partially regaining the use of his hand, in which case he will be able to take up the Imperial Commissions in the Oxfordshire Light Infantry, which was recently granted him.

His Excellency the Governor, attended by Captain Alexander, A.D.C.. left Wellington for the South on Tuesday last, and will be away some weeks. During his tour His* Excellency will be the guest of Sir George and Lady Clifford for two or three days at “Stouyhurst.” and will also pay a short visit to Cheviot and to Flaxbourne on the way to Blenheim, where he will be the guest of Mr. Foster at Scarborough station.

Mrs. H. Butler has returned to Wellington from “Balgownie,” Wanganui, where she has been visiting Mrs. Abbott for some weeks with her children.

Mr. and Mrs. 11. D. Bell and Dr. and Mrs. Collins, Wellington, issued a large number of invitations in honour of the Imperial officers, to afternoon tea, at Mr. Bell's charming residence at Lowry Bay, on Sunday afternoon last, but owing to the rough water in the harbour, and the boisterous weather which prevailed, held the entertainment at the Wellington Club instead, which had the night before been the scene of a brilliant dinner and reception, given by its members: also in honour of the Imperial visitors. In spite of the general halfmourning which perforce prevailed, the dresses worn were unusually handsome, and the entertainment was thoroughly enjoyed by the visitors and tin- large number of guests who were invited to meet them.

Mr. Robert I‘ynsent, son of Mr. Pynsent. of Wellington, has leased his station in Raugitikei, and goes Home for a trip, via Japan, this month.

Mrs Kingsmill is staying with Mrs Macpherson in Wellington during the absence of her husband in. the Mildura.

Mrs Warren (Wellington) leaves shortly for Hawke’s Bay, where she and her family intend living during Mr Warren’S proposed visit to England.

The Rev. Mr Coffey and Mrs Coffey, of St. Mark's vicarage, are about to

take a trip to England in order to recruit the health of the latter.

Mr and Mrs Oatts (England) are holding evangelistic services in Christchurch,, more especially in the interest of the Y.M.C.A.. both for years having worked most zealously in the cause. There is no doubt the Y.M.C.A. does not seem a necessity for our young men. Whether the bicycle is answerable for this, as well as the lack of church-going men, 1 do not know, but probably Mr and Mrs Oatts will show theui the advantage of both. Mr and Mrs Farmar returned to Blenheim on Saturday, after an absence of nearly a year, spent in visiting friends in San Francisco, and after leaving then' going to New York, visiting many places of interest on the route, and from then 1 to England. They arrived in Melbourne about Christmas, and there met Miss Clara Farmar, and spending a few weeks there, all returned together to NewZealand.

Miss Carey, who has been staying with Mrs Griffiths, at "The Barton." Blenheim, has gone on to Wellington, where she will spend a week or two before returning to Hokitika.

Mrs Hall (North island), who has been staying with Mrs McLanchlan. ‘■Rantioeh." Blenheim, is now visiting Mrs Fulton. at "Boballv."

Mrs Mclntire. Blenheim, has been spending a week with Mrs J. Dunean, at "The Grove.” Queen Charlotte's Sound, and during her absence. Mrs Collins has been keeping house for her.

Mrs Currie has returned to Blenheim. after an absence of several months, spent in visiting Auckland, where she stayed with Miss Conolly. and Sydney. Ylrs J. L. Harris. of Blenheim, is making a short visit to Wellington, and after her return will move to the house recently bought by Mr Harris, at Springlands.

Mrs W. Baillie, of Blenheim, has gone to visit friends in Sydney.

Mrs Clayden. of Wellington, is stay ing with Mrs R. Bell, at Springlands. Blenheim.

Mr and Mrs A. Glasgow, of Nelson, are now settled in their new house, which they have just built in the lovely Maitai Valley. Mrs and Miss Malvel Glasgow silent the summer in Christchurch. which they enjoyed immensely. Their Nelson friends are glad to welcome them home again. Messrs A. and K. Sclanders, of Nelson. are ou a bicycling tour in the North Island.

Mrs W. Morrison, of Wairarapa. is staying with her mother, Mrs H. Calders, Stoke. Nelson. Miss Gribben. of the Girls’ College. Nelson, returned from her home on the West Coast, last week. Mr and Mrs Denshire, of Ashburton, spent a few days in Nelson last week.

Miss Kathleen Fell, returned to Nelson last week after an enjoyable visit to her sister, Mrs R. Humphries, Napier.

Mr McKellar Wix. and Miss Wix. returned to Wellington last week from Nelson.

Mrs I’ogsou returned to Auckland from Nelson last week. She was accompanied by her sister and brother. Miss and Mr Lnbecki. of Nelson.

Mrs and Miss F. Webb-Bowen, of Nelson, have gone to Wellington to see the Imperial troops.

Mr E. I*. Watkiss. the Nelson agent of the Public Trust Department, has been granted four weeks' leave. Mr C. Zachariah, of Wellington, is taking his place during his absence.

Mrs Stott, of the China Toland Mission, is in Nelson on missionary work. Miss Aliee Hollander, the Sydney contralto, is to give two farewell concerts in Nelson this week.

Dr. Pearless, of Wakefield, was presented by the Waimea South Athletic Association with a handsome clock, in recognition of his valuable services as secretary.

Miss B. Moore has returned to Nelson after a plensaMt trip to Blenheim. Mr and Mrs H. Mirams, of Auckland, are staying in Kelson. Mr and Mrs N. Baine have returned to Hawera from Nelson.

Miss Sealy has returned to Nelson after a short visit to the North Island. Maurice Harris, Christ eh urch. and left to return to Adelaide on Friday. The Hon. Chas. Louisson. Mrs and the Misses Louisson, together with Mr and Mrs Maurice Harris, left for England via Sydney on Friday. Tha party breaks up in Sydney. Mr and Mrs Harris and the Misses Louisson go to Japan, thence to America. Mr and Mrs Louisson going to England from Sydney, but they will all meet again in New York to visit a married daughter of Mrs Harris’, ami Mrs Louisson returns to Englund with them for the remainder of their visit, Mr Luuisson coming on to New Zealand in time for his Parliamentary du ties.

Judge Denniston, Mrs and the Misses Denniston, arrived in Christchurch by the Monowai on Friday morning from England, via Australia. Mr Justice Denniston has greatly benefited by the trip and the rest, and all have much enjoyed the visit.

Mr and Mrs Jno. Cooke and Miss Cooke left by express ou Saturday to join the steamer for Melbourne in Dunedin.

On the way home from tlw Rissir.gton races last week, a vehicle, when coming down a cutting ou to the main road, was upset. The occupants, Mr and Mrs Lowry and Mr and Miss Kinross White, were thrown out and somewhat shaken.

The Primate. Dr. Cowie (Bishop of Auckland),who has been staying with ’ the Misses Williams, of Houkerere, Napier, for the past three weeks, left by the Britannic last night with the Imperial troops for Auckland, and will thenee go to England with them as chaplain. The Misses Moreeroft, Seapoint Road. Napier, have returned -iome after a lengthened stay in Dunedin and Christchurch.

The Bishop of Wellington has left Napier for a visit to Taupo before returning home. Mr and Mrs Hamilton, of Dunedin are staying with Mrs Margoliouth. «if Milton Terrace. Napier.

Miss Kettle has returned to Napier after a visit to Waipawa.

Miss E. Standish, of New Plymouth, has gone for a trip to Auckland. Mr Horroeks and Masters L. and Leo Horrocks, who hare been on a visit to Wellington, have returned to New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. Weetman, of Christchurch, who are in Auckland on a

visit, have juat returned from Botorua. Their trip ta Eotorua was partly ou account of Mr. Weetman's health, which is much improved thereby. They are- at present staying with Mrs. Weetman's sister, Mrs. J. M. Brigham. “Marano,” Parnell, Auckland.
