OBITUARY.

Very great regret was expressed in Christchurch on receipt of the news of the death of Professor Michel Clarke, which took place at the residence of his father-in-law, the Hon. Dr. Grace, Wellington. It was know n he was not in good health, but his death came as a great shock, and the deepest sympathy is felt for Mrs. Clarke in her sad bereavement. Professor Clarke will be greatly missed at Canterbury College, where he was professor of French and German, having held that position since February, 1891. He will also be a great loss outside of Christchurch, as he was examiner in French and German for most of the High Schools in New Zealand, also for these subjects for the University. The cause of death was diabetes, and at the early age of 38 years.
