Dear Bee, December 13. Mrs R.B. Gore gave a very large “At Home" on Thursday afternoon. It was given to welcome home and congratulate the bride and bridegroom, Mr and Mrs Cory Matthew (nee Miss Alice Gore), and to meet Mr and Mrs Thomas Walter, who are also staying with Mrs Gore, from the Waikato. Mr and Mrs Matthew are spending their honey-moon in Wellington, much enjoying seeing old friends again, and after spending a week or two down South, intend returning to their new home in the Waikato. It turned out a beautiful day, and the .many guests either strolled about the garden or listened to the music, or devoted themselv.es to the diningroom, W'here every imaginable dainty was laid out, amid a wealth of flowers and sweets. The Wellington Leidertafel held their usual “ladies’ night” most successfully on Thursday evening in the Sydney-street Hall, where there was a very large, attendance. Mr. Robert Parker conducting. The room, especially the stage, was beautifully decorated with huge palms, bamboos, etc., and carpeted with red, aud looked very nice indeed. The glees and part songs were much appreciated, and a violin solo by Herr Lehmann, in which he was accompanied by Miss B. Vartha—called “Berceuse,” by Simon; and also a song by a new young singer, Air. Ballance, called “My Flower,” struck me as being particularly attractive; indeed the latter called

forth the only encore of the evening, tn the large audience I saw Mrs. and Miss Lucy Tolhurst, who have just returned from their delightful trip to England and Australia, the former wearing u handsome black satin gown with jet. and the latter a white mualiu gown much frilled with lace.
