Dear Bee, December 7. The Dean of Waiapu openeid • bazaar at St. Andrew’s School room. The Spit, last Wednesday afternoon, the object being to augment tbje funds of St. Andrew's Church. After the opening ceremony, sales were briskly carried on, the stalls containing an immense variety of Mtractive kuicknaeks, and useful and ornamental needlework. The attendance was an extremely good one. and a large sum of money was realised during the afternoon. Musical selections were given by talented amateurs, which added much to the attractions of tbc sale. Amongst those who |>erforme«l were: —Mrs. Dean and the Misses Antill. Allen. Pasley, and Clarke. The stalls were kept by Mesdames Botham, March. Sims, and Thompson, and the Misses Allen, Antill. Clarke. Humphries, Pasley, Luxford. etc. Many of the customers came a considerable distance to attend the sale. The second round of the combined doubles tennis tournament is to be concluded this week. Miss Mary Dinwiddie and Macassey beat Mrs. Russell Duncan and Bowen very easily (70 —10). and in the third round they meet Miss Wood and Parker, who have already beaten Miss Averill Hunter and Macfariane. Miss Kate Hitchings and Jones were also victorious in the second round, beating Mips Hilda Hitchings and Hartley (SO —74). Miss Rees and Clarke beat Miss Nellie ’ Cotterill and Balharry ; M iss Fannin and Pavitt beat Miss Watt and Brabant: Miss Cotterill and Broad beat Miss T’na Hitchings and Dixon (70 — 64): and Miss Todd and George Cotterill beat Miss Dean and Haselden (70—57). Several of these matches were played last Saturday, when a large number of spectators were present to witness them, and afternoon tea was given by Mrs. Westall and Miss Fannin. MARJORIE.
