The Audrew Burns benefit coucert ou Thursday evening at the Exhibition was a great success in every way, except the length of the programme, but 1 hear it has been divided to Ijegin a little earlier and very much shorten the bill of fare in the concert hall. The proceeds amounted to over £ 1(N, aud a substantial sura now rests with two trustees for the boy's use. On Friday evening the Caledonian Society gave a concert to i very large audience, when the skirl of the pipes gladdened the heart of many a Scotchman present. The dancing was much appreciated, the foursome iu wiiich the president. Air Pat. Campbell, was engaged. being encored. Among those present were:—Airs Pat. Campbell. Mrs H. Rose. Mr and Miss Cunual. Mrs Donald Ate Lean. Dr. and Miss Thomas. Mr and Mrs R. Struthers. Mr and Airs Davis Hunt. Mr and Miss Duncan. Air and Aliss .Moir. etc. On Saturday an Irish concert under Mr Rossiter was given in the same hall, a feature of the evening being the dancing of seven little girls (pupils of Signor BorzOni) in Spanish costume and with castanets. The attendance at the Exhibition keeps up iu a wonderful manner, while the various schools aud institutions visit it in succession. There is a strong counter attraction in the evening now. the Arnold Company playing at the Theatre

Royal in “What Happened to Jones,” which is billed as “funny enough to make pn owl laugh,” and it certainly is screamingly funny for all who can appreciate the light side of nature. There was a full house for the opening night, and now people are turned from the door long twfore the opening hour. Among those present on Monday were:—Mr and Mrs W. Stringer, Mr and Mrs Appleby, Miss Lightfoot, Mr and Mrs D. Matson, Mrs Matson. Mrs Bourne, Mr F. de C. Malet, Mrs L. Malet. Mr and Mrs F. W. Thompson, Mrs and Miss Cook, Mrs Ganard. Misses Grant anti Fairhurst, and many more. On Friday Mrs R. D. Thomas gave a very pleasant afternoon tea to a few of her friends, when Mrs Jennings, Mrs (Dr.) (Akaroa), Miss Hargreaves, Mrs Hume, and others were present. On Tuesday Mrs J. T. Peacock, “Hawkesbury,” gave a large garden party, the grounds and lawns looking lovely at this time of the year. The water lily pond and conservatories were a picture. The Hon. J. T. and Mrs Peaeock received their numerous guests on the steps at the front door when they passed on to the lawns, where a marquee was erected for refreshments. and numerous seats and small tables at every turn laden with strawberries and cream. In one nook a band was stationed and two croquet lawns were iu play. Mrs Peaeock wore a green and white striped silk with cream lace trimming and narrow blaek velvet, black hat: Miss Prosser, pretty pink and white muslin with black hat: Miss McLean (Gisborne>. •■weet dress of chine silk with pink flowers, the bodice trimmed and under sleeves of cream lace and chiffon, and tufts of narrow Mack velvet. Tuscan hat with pink flowers: Miss Ching (Auckland), pink silk under cream lace, black chiffon sash and hat: Mrs E. C. J.
