Miss Annie Horton, of Blenheim, has gone to Nelson to stay with Mrs Moyaihan.

Mrs H. Dobson, of Gisborne, has gone to visit her mother, Mrs A. Dobson, in Blenheim.

Miss Ferguson left Blenheim last Monday to make a short visit to Wellington. Mrs Mowat, of “Altimarloch,” has been very unwell since her return to Blenheim, from her visit to various places in the North Island, and is now staying with her daughter-in-law, Mrs J. Mowat, where she is at present confined to her room.

Mrs Husby, “Valleyfield,” who has been making a short stay in Wellington. returned to Blenheim last Thursday.

Miss Hindmarsh, who has been staying with Mrs W. Hindmarsh, at the Bank of New Zealand, Blenheim, left for her home last week. Miss Neville left Blenheim last Monday to make a short stay in Wellington.

Miss Kathleen liewitt, who has been spending several weeks in Blenheim with her parents, left on Monday to return to Wanganui. Mrs Watts, “Melrose,” Nelson, arrived in Blenheim last Tuesday, and drove up to “.Lansdowne” with Mr and Mrs G. Watts, will whom she will stay for a short time.

Mr Sim, of the Loan and Mercantile, Blenheim, has just returned from his holiday, which he spent in the North Island.

The celebration of the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs J. Rose, in Blenheim, on the 30th of August, excited great interest among their numerous friends. Their son-in-law, Mr W. Avery, and Mrs Avery, entertained a large number of relatives and friends at their residence, on the New Renwick Road, in the afternoon, and among those present were Archdeacon Grace, the Revs. Keall and Robb, Mr T. Redwood, etc., who spoke of the high esteem in which Mr and Mrs Rose were held, their long connection with the Wesleyan Church, in which they were earnest workers, and their long residence in the colony, which extended over forty years, fifteen of which were spent in Blenheim. Relations from Wellington and Nelson came to offer their congratulations and good wishes. Mrs and Miss Tanner of “Balquiddar,” Napier, have left for Christchurch, and intend remaining there for about a month. Mrs F. W. Williams, of Napier, has returned from a visit to Gisborne. Mr Charlton, who has been living in Napier for about two years, left for England last week. Mr and Mrs Langley Shaw have returned to their home at Korokipo, after a long visit to Christchurch. Captain C. J. Spencer, late of Napier, is now doing duty on the hospital sh.p Carthage, which is being used to bring wounded soldiers from China. His brother, Mr Jack Spencer, will shortly begin his medical studies at Charing Cross Hospital. Miss Florence Watt, after st .lying for some months in Auckland, has returned to Napier. Mr, Mrs, and Miss Runciman, of Auckland, paid a short visit to Napier, and left there last week for the North. Mrs Milsom’s friends in Christchurch will be glad to hear of the success of her son, Mr E. H. B. Milsom, who is studying at Guy’s Hospital, London, having secured first-class honours in some subjects at a recent examination, and third-class honours in another. He has also been appointed demonstrator in anatomy at Guy's, and held till recently an appointment as demonstrator in chemistry, that being now taken by Mr W. R. Allen, of Auckland.

Dr. Fenwick, who left Christchurch with one of the contingents for South Africa, and was invalided to England, has so far recovered as to have his services accepted again, and has gone out to China with troops.

Mrs Gould, Colombo street, Christchurch, has returned from her winter visit to Tasmania, and is looking very well.

Mrs Northcote, of Christchurch, with her little daughter, who recently had the misfortune to break her leg, is now staying with

Mrs Wilson at Cashmere, the little maiden having so far recovered as to be able to leave Mrs Pope's Nursing Home.

Mrs -H. Harris and Mrs Marks, of Christchurch, are spending a week at Sumner, the spring-like weather tempting people out of town. Mr W. J. Bruce, for many years head salesman at Messrs W. Chrystall and Co.'s, has severed his connection with the old firm and started on his own account, taking Mr Jensen as partner. Mr Bruce was the recipient of many tokens of regard from the various departments, beginning with a. handsome cheque from the firm, other souvenirs being a marble clock, sovereign case, gold pencil, threefold shaving mirror, and silver mounted flask.

Mrs and Miss McEnnis, of Kumara, who have been staying in Christchurch for the last three months, left for Dunedin on Monday by express.

Mrs and Miss Stewart, of Home Bay, Auckland, left by the Mararoa on Monday for Sydney and Melbourne, where they will spend the next few months. Miss Upton, of Ponsonby, Auckland, left by the Mararoa for Sydney on a visit to Mrs Ellis.(nee Miss Stewart).

The last dance of the season of the Ponsonby At Homes takes place on Friday night, and promises to be as great a success as is usually the case with these popular dances. Miss Dargaville, from Auckland, is paying Mrs. Thomson, of New Plymouth, a visit.

Mrs. and Miss E. Didsbury, of Wellington, are paying Mrs. Skeet, of New Plymouth, a visit. His Excellency the Governor visited Waipau last week, and paid a visit of inspection to the Te Aute College. Mrs War dr up (Christchurch) is.paying a visit to Wellington, where she is the guest of Mr and Mrs Heaton Rhodes.

Mr J. B. Harcourt (Wellington) has been elected a vice-president of the Wellington Racing Club, in place of Mr G. Hutchison, M.H.R., who recently left to reside in South Africa.

Miss Hodge, of Woodford House, Hastings, is spending- her hol'days in the North.

Mr David Miller, of Christchurch, has taken the position of postmaster in Napier, in place of Mr Jago, who has been promoted to Wellington. Much sympathy is felt with Dr. E. Menzies, of Napier, who has received the news of the death at sea of his son. Neil.

Mr and Miss Kettle, of Napier, have gone for a visit to the South. . Mrs Rees, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs Lusk, of the Barrack Hill, Napier, left for her home in Gisborne last Weeek.

Miss Friberg has arrived in Napier from the country, and is staying with Mrs Westall, of Napier. Mrs McLean, of Napier, has returned from Sydney.

Mrs W. Bidwell, “Rototawai,” Featherston. spent a few days in Wellington on her return home from the golf tournament at Christchurch.

Mrs and Miss Tanner, Hawke’s Bay, are staying at the Royal Oak Hotel in Wellington, in order to be with Captain Errington Tanner, who lately arrived home invalided from South Africa, and is at present in the Wellington Hospital. Mrs Hewitt, who has been spending some weeks in Wellington, with Dr. and Mrs Newman, has returned home to Fitzllerbert.

Mrs Ralph Fitz-Herbert, Marton, is staying with her relatives in Wellington on a short visit.

A letter has been received from the private secretary of Lord Curzon’s, by Miss A. M. Douglas, the “captain” _.f the Young Ladies’ Contingent in Wellington, acknowledging the receipt of the sum of £63 4/9, the proceeds of the concert recently he d by the contingent in aid of the Indian famine relief fund. His Exc llency also courteously expressed his thanks for the photograph of the fair contingent, which they had sent him with the donation, and desired that his gratitude might be conveyed “to the kind friends who remembered the Indians in their hour of need.”

Mrs W. Turnbull and Miss Una Williams are among the Wellington representatives at the Manawatu golf tournament at Palmerston this week.

Mr and Mrs A. E. G. Rhodes (Christchurch) intend returning to New Zealand in October, by the Orient liner Omrah.

Miss Elsie D. Slater, of Christchurch, has won the prize for the best study from life, in oil or water colours, offered by the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts. The picture will be exhibited at the Wellington Academy Exhibition, which is to be opened by His Excellency the Governor on Saturday, 15th inst. Archdeacon Fancourt returned to Wellington from Sydney by the Westralia last week. The Hon. Thomas Dunean. Minister of Lands, is spending a few days at Shag Point, with the Hon. John McKenzie, who continues slowly to improve in health.

Miss Wilson, of Napier, is staying in Wellington. Miss Macfarlane, of Napier, is staying with Mrs Tylee. The Bishop of Waiapu. who has been to Sydney, in order to be present at the Church Conference there, has returned home.

Colonel and M'ss Pitt returned to Wellington from Nelson last week.
