Dear Bee, August 16. A very enjoyable afternoon “At Home’’ was given c>n VVevini sday by Mrs W. R E. Brown, Tinakori Road. The tea table looked pretty, being arranged with lovely jonquils and green. A band of musicians were stationed in the conservatory, and played sweet music during the afternoon. Mrs Brown was wearing a black velvet trained gown, with ecru lace on the bodice: and her daughter-in-law, Mrs E. B. Brown, wore a black silk skirt and pretty pink and white silk blouse. Some of those present were Mrs Rhodes, who wore a handsome black costume; Mrs Pharazyn, black cloth jacket and skirt, and a black bonnet with white flowers; Miss Pharazyn woie a pale grey coat and skirt and large hat with grey feathers; Mrs Pynsent. a black satin skirt and bodice of black and white striped satin, trimmed with lace, black bonnet with pale pink roses and tips; Mrs Williams, black gown and handsome jetted cape,

and a black bonnet with oepreys and steel; Mrs Newman, a grey costume, with white vest, and a velvet toqua with ospreys; Mrs Findlay, black coat and skirt, black and pink toque; Mrs Fitchett, violet coloured gown, trimmed with velvet to match, and a violet toque bound with white feathers; Mrs Marchbanks, fawn tailor suit and ecru straw toque trimmed with scarlet; Mrs Leckie, black brocade gow n and black and white bonnet; Mrs Gore, black and white gown and bonnet, trimmed with red; Mrs Embling, dark green gown, with white vest and a black and white toque with wings and blue velvet; Mrs 11. Gore, blue eoat and skirt, and black hat with tips; Mrs Wilford, black tailor suit, and a green velvet toque with pink roses; Mrs Tweed wore a black coat and skirt and becoming deep heliotrope toque; Mrs Barron, dark green gown, with vest of white silk and lace, and a black toque with pink roses; Mrs Joseph, black eoat and skirt, and a gre< n velvet bonnet with ospreys; Miss Joseph, grey tailor-made costume and a black and red toque; Mrs Menzies, black gown, and bonnet trimmed with mauve heath; Mrs Turkey, black gown and cape, and a black bonnet with yellow flowers; Mrs Reid, Mrs Fulton, Mrs Tanner. Mrs Bailey (who played charmingly several times), Mrs Campbell, Mrs and Miss Butts, Mrs and Miss Nathan, Miss Greenwood, Mrs and Miss Sprott, the Misses Stowe, Mrs Deane, Mrs Loughman, Mrs and Miss O'Connor, Mrs Brown, and others.

This afternoon another most delightful “At Home” was given by Mrs R. O’Connor. The house was most beautifully decorated with spring flowers, and was greatly admired. There were two tea rooms, which proved an excellent idea, as there was no crushing, and one felt that there was no chance of having one's afternoon refreshment upset over a nice new frock! The front tea room table was sweetly pretty, being arranged with yellow jonquils and violets on a green satin centre, and festooned with

yellow anil violet bebe ribbon. The smaller room was also decked with jonquils and violets on a white and yellow centre. Mrs O’Connor received in a rich black brocade gown, trained, and the liodiee trimmed with lace and jet.; Miss O'Connor wore a durk green figured gown with yoke of red silk under lace; and her sister wore a dull green gown with white tucked, silk vest Mrs Tweed, was assisting at the tea table, and also Miss Skerrett and Mios (trace. Mrs Tweed wore a black satin skirt and a blouse of rose-pink brocade trimmed with chiffon to match, anil lace. Among others I noticed were Mrs Duncan, wearing a black cloth coat and skirt, and bonnet with tips and pink rosette; Mrs Fitchett, blue tailor suit and violet silk toque with feather; Mrs Pynsent, violet cloth jacket and skirt, and a straw bonnet trimmed with red roses and leaves; Mrs Barron, dark green gown with hiee front, and a black and pink toque: Miss Barron, dark blue gown, and black and led toque; Mrs Joseph, black coat and skirt and a green silk and velvet bonnet with ospreys; Miss Joseph, grey coat and skirt and black toque with roses; Mrs Turkey, black gown and cape, black bonnet with tips and yellow roses; Mrs D. Heid, a brown gown trimmed with white lace and pink silk, bonnet to match; Mrs Butts, a black figured silk gown, and black and white bonnet; Mrs Campbell. red coat and skirt, red toque with grey tips; Mrs Nathan, blue coat and skirt, and a black bat with tips; Miss Nathan, dark tailor made suit and black straw hat with blue ribbon; Mrs ( rawford, black Russian gown and u black and red toque; Mrs Grace, dark blue doth costume and black bonnet trimmed with pink velvet and lace; Miss Grace wore a scarlet silk gown with bands of ecru insertion; Mrs McCarthy, a grey gown and short black velvet jacket edged with jet, black hat with tips; Mrs Milward,' black gown and black and white toque with ospreys; Mrs Tripe, black costume: Miss Tripe, black eoat and skirt, and toque trimmed with blue silk and tips; Mrs McTavish, dark blue gown and black toque with violets and ospreys; Mrs A, Martin, dark

maroon gown with lace yoke and a pretty violet toque; Mrs Edwin, black coat and skirt, and black and pink bonnet; Mrs Ward, black skirt and long fawn jacket, deep pink straw and ribbon toque; Mrs Samuel, a dark tailor suit, and black hat with pink; Miss Brandon, a cornflower blue gown trimmed with velvet, and a black hat; Miss A. Brandon, dark grey gown and piuk and black hat; Miss Harcourt, blaek coat and skirt, and green trimmed hat; Miss Dransfield. black gown and fawn coat, red velvet toque with blaek wings; Miss Douglas, black skirt and fawn jacket, straw bat with red rosette; Miss Johnston, light blue tailor suit, and velvet toque trimmed with pale blue ribbon and fur; Miss O. Gore, brown coat and skirt, and straw toque with tips and flowers; Miss F, Brandon, in blaek and white. Airs Williams gave a very jolly little dance last night. The house was prettily decorated for the occasion with spring flowers, and every one danced merrily on till midnight. Among the guests were the Misses Johnston. Bell, Gore. Duncan. Harcourt. Cooper, and Douglas. and Messrs Buchanan, Cooper, Duncan, Gore. etc.
