Dear Bee. June 23. Some energetic workers for the Indian Famine Fund gave a successful concert to an appreciative audience on the 15th inst.. in the public hall, Clive. Mrs Graham and the Misses Burns, Illingworth. McPherson, Bissell, Neagle, Arrow, and King were the lady vocalists, and the Misses McPherson appeared together in a vocal duet, ‘‘Life’s Dream is O’er.” Miss Florence McPherson singing later, “Scarlet and Blue.” Mr I). O'Connell, Mr Mclntosh, and Mr W. Davidson were also happy in their vocal selections, the last-named being humorous were decidedly entertaining. Vocal solos by Mr Sims, those for the pianoforte by Miss Burns, and a sailor's hornpipe* by Mr F. Cushing, are likewise worthy of commendation. Messrs Cushing. Edlin, Millier, Sims and Taylor displayed great, dramatic abilities in a comedietta, entitled “A Private Lunatic Asylum.” Mr Hugh Campbell presided at the annual concert on the 14th inst. at the Pukahu Hall, which was hik'd by an audience who evidently came prepared to enjoy the well selected programme such as those who inaugurate it always provide. Miss Nellie Tucker sang with great effect “Hearts and Homes,” which was encored. Mr M. Brandon gave “He Is Not Dead Yet;” he also took part in the duet. “How Can You Tell I’m Irish?” with Mr J. Brandon. Miss Kate Hamilton sang “Britannia, Pride of the Ocean,” and “Hark, the

/at Bells Binging,” both of which yew well merited encores. Mr T. /arker gave some humorous recitations. Miss Campbell, a lady who promises to be a elever pianist, played two solos, and received welldeserved applause for her performance. Miss Hilda Douglas delighted the audience with her song “Gates of the West.” Miss and Mr A. Fail added greatly to the pleasure of the evening, as did Mr Cook, Mr Baker, Mr R. Smith, and Mr McPhee, and the concert closed with a fascinating clog dance and sailor's hornpipe by Mr J. Brandon. The dance which followed was kept up until an early hour on the following morning. The Bunt Club had a fast run with the Hawke's Bay Harriers on Saturday. The meet and breakfast had been at the house of Mr Rhodes, Springhill, and a large company were present. Among them: —Mrs Rhodes. Miss Rhodes, Miss Abbott, Miss Herrick, Mr Kinross White, Mr Cartwright Brown, Mr H. 11. Bridge, Dr. Robinson, Mr A. T. Russell, Mr Herbert Gaisford, Mr E. Froome, Mr Orr, and many more. The run was round the hills, through some of the home paddocks, over the road, and through the boundary fence on to Mr Harding's station, where the hare was killed.
