The Rev. J. P. and Mrs Kempthorne and family (Nelson) have taken a house in Stoke, where they intend spending the summer holidays. Miss Esther Atkinson has returned to Christeliurch after a short, visit to her mother (Mrs AV. Atkinson, Nelson). Sirs and the Misses Harris have returned to Nelson after a delightful visit to Pelorus Sound. Mr Hugh Lcggatt. of La Peruse. Sydney, is at present staying with his parents ( Hr. and Mrs Leggatt). in Nelson. Lieut.-Colonel and Miss Pitt have returned to Nelson after a most delightful trip up the Wanganui River. Miss Jo Pitt, who is much better for the change, is .still in Wellington. Miss Fell and Miss Huddlestone have returned to Nelson from Totaranui. Mr. .Mrs de Castro and family. Stoke. Nelson, are spending a few days at the Wangamoa. Mr Sharp, organist of the Napier Cathedral, is spending a few days in Nelson, and intends next week to give an organ recital in the Presbyterian Church. The Right lion. Mr Seddon visited Nelson last week in order to take part in Mr Graham's birthday social. He was the guest of Mr Francis Trask. Mr Howarth, who will relieve Judge Robinson during the latter’s six weeks' holiday, arrived in Nelson from Wellington last week. The delegates to the Students’ Summer School arrived in Nelson last week, and the session commenced in the Bishop's schoolroom on Saturday evening. Among the visitors are Dr. E. Maynard Pain (Sydney). Dr. Bowie, of the New Hebrides Mission. Mr T. T. MeWilliam, 8.A.. Rev. R. F. Elder. Messrs W. Mawson, M.A., and Alex Porter (of the Otago University), J. Bertram, and R. N. Tennant. The Rev. W. Waters. Vicar of St. Peter's. Wellington, is spending his annual holiday in Nelson. Dr. and Mrs Cleghorn, of Blenheim, are making a short visit to Napier. Air Gerald Fitz Gerald paid a flying v'.sit to Blenheim last week, before returning home to Wellington. He has been spending several weeks camping in Queen Charlotte's Sound. Mr George Waddy. of Auckland, is at present visiting h’s mother. Mrs Waddy. in Blenheim. His old friends are pleased to see him again. Air A. P. Green (Blenheim) has gone to Wellington to stay with her mother, Airs N. Reid, before going to her new home in Oamaru. Airs Farmar (Blenheim) has gone to Port Underwood to make a short visit to her daughter. Mrs R. Scott. Miss Auslin, who has been staving with Airs Rogers, at “Bitham Lodge." Blenheim, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Airs Arthur Farmar. of Blenheim, left for Port Underwood early this morning. with the intention of camping there, on Air R. Scott’s run. She lias taken all her children and two of Airs Griffiths'. Aliss Rogers, of Blenheim, has gone to Christchurch, where she will be the guest of Mrs .Alfred Carter, formerly of Blenheim. Aliss Potts, of Reefton. is the guest of Airs Petre, in Blenheim. ” Airs Wilkin and the .Misses Wilkin, of Christchurch, are at present on a visit to Auckland, and are staying at “Alodina,” Lower Symonds street. Mrs J. H. Howard, “Springlands,” Blenlt Im. is spending the Christmas holidays with Air and the Atisses Greensill, at “Brooklyn,” Picton. Airs A. P. Green, who has been enjoying a visit to Picton, has now gone on to Wellington to spend a few weeks with her Airs N. Reid. Mr A. P. Green lias been transferred ’ to Oamaru Bank of New Zealand. Miss C. M. (Belle) Allen. Picton, has passed the South Kensington annual examination in elementary freehand drawing. The Misses Nora and Nellie Allen, Pieton, have started a Girls’ Patriotic Fund, the subscriptions to be one shilling. They have also started a children's fund, subscriptions to be from one penny up to sixpence. It was thought that many would like to give a small amount who were unable to give more.

Quite a large party are now camping out at Waikawa, about three and a-hslf miles from Pieton. Among the party are Archdeacon Grace and family from Blenheim, the Rev. Ernest Ensor and family from Spring Creek, the Vicar of Picton and family. Airs and the Misses Allen (3), .Miss Howard, etc. They look forward to a jolly time, ami expect no end of visitors at the camp, ami many projected visitations are on the tapis. Dr. Laishley has returned to Auckland. having spent a fortnight at Cambridge. Mayor D. Goldie and his wife are staying at the National Hotel, Cambridge. Airs Empson, senr., has left Cambridge for Timaru, to visit her eldest son. Aliss Empson, of Cambridge, has also gone South with her grandmother, intending to make a lengthy stay. Air Hosking, of Alt. Eden. Auckland, is making a short stay at Cambridge. Airs H. C. Brewer, of Remuera, Auckland, has been staying in Cambridge for some time. When it became known that Air Empson, the Cambridge (Auckland) postmaster, had been promoted to a larger ofliee, very general regret was expressed at losing him, as he has by his genial obliging manner gained the respect of one an.’, ail. He and his family will be much missed. We wish them every success in their new home viz., Rotorua. Airs (Dr.) Murdoch has taken that beautiful spot. “Waterside,” Cambridge. Auckland, and intends opening it as a private boarding-hov.se. Dr. and Airs Knight, of Ponsonby, Auckland, have gone to Taranaki on a short visit. The Mayor and Airs Goldie left Auckland for Cambridge last week. Aliss McLachlan has returned to Auckland from Sydney after an extended visit. Aliss Buchanan, of Parnell, Auckland, has returned from Rotorua. Airs E. T. Hart and family, of Ponsonby. Auckland, are staying at Cambridge for a month. .Miss Hewin, of Auckland, has been staying at Cambridge, and proceeds in a week to Rotorua. Mr W. Allen, member of the Imperial Parliament, and son of Air W. S. Allen, ot Annandale. Piako, has gone to Soin]- Africa with his volunteer company, thus carrying out a pledge given in the course of a sp-ech in the lievse, that if any volunteers proceeded to the seat of war, he would efl’er his services and take his share of ji-. Mr Severne. governor of the Napier Gaol, has b en transferred to Auckland, for which town he intends leaving immediately. His position will he taken by Air Flannery, of Hokitika. Aliss Severne. as wi 11 as her father, will be much missed, more especially by the Cathedral choir, of which she has been a prominent member for some years. Air. Airs, and Aliss Tabart, of Christchurch, are at Sumner, also Air and Airs Aleares and family. Aliss Sandes, of Hamilton, is home again, after a visit to Auckland. Airs 11. B. Smith, of Napier, has gone for a visit to Dunedin. Dr. and Airs Cleghorn, of Blenheim, are at present in Napier. Aliss Wood, of Napier, is spending her holidays in Auckland. Aliss Hamlin, of Napier, is visiting the Wairarapa. Air and Airs McKay, of Napier, are spending the Christmas 'holidays in Masterton. Air Osborne Sainsbury, of Napier, has gone for a trip to the South. Airs Wood, of the Napier High School, is staying with friends at Wa'roa, and Air Wood has gone to Dulled i n.

Air Sharp, organist of the Napier Cathedral, has been to Nelson. Air and Airs Ben Buttle, of Auckland, are living in Napier, which will henceforth be Air Bottle's headquarters. Air Edmund Alason, Registrar ot Friendly Societies, Wellington, was In Auckland last week on a visit. He Is now in Rotorua, where he proposes to remain for a few days. One of his sons 'has gone to the Transvaal with the medical corps. Air and Airs Ernest Dufaur are living for the present in a pretty furnished house in City Road, Auckland. The bride is busy receiving the many callers attracted by her and her husband's popularity. Airs Wilks and family, Mount Albert, are camping beyond Lake Takapuna, in a lovely bay. Airs Sellers, Alount Albert, is staying at Waiuku with 'her married daughter, Airs Claude Alotion. Aliss K. Alason, Wellington, has gone to England. The attractions of the Mountain House, New Plymouth, are drawing a larger number of visitors than usual th.s season, owing to the greater facilities for enjoying the pure mountain air and delightful scenery of the surroundings, while our G.0.A1. (Alount Egmont, if you please) wonders why many of his hitherto unexplored secrets should so ruthlessly be invaded. Airs Fred Wilson and Aliss Reeves, of Christchurch, have gone up to Horsley Downs on a visit to Mrs Lance. Airs Kane, of Napier, is visiting friends in Canterbury. Aliss Muriel Balfour, of Napier, is staying in the Wairarapa. Aliss Chapman, of Napier, has gone for a short visit to Wellington. Air T. Kirk, w..0 left Hamilton (Waikato) last week to take up his residence at Gisborne, will be much missed in athletic circles. Air and Airs J. D. Hall, of Christchurch. spent Christmas at Hororata with Sir John and Lady Hall. Airs J. D. Hall remained some time longer, but is now back in Christchurch. Airs and Aliss Alalet, of Christchurch. are paying a short visit to their station. Clairwell. Airs Swarbrick and family, of Hamilton Waikato) are spending a few weeks at North Shore. Auckland. Air Wynn-Williams has returned to New Plymouth, after enjoying a pleasant fishing season in Canterbury. The Rev. F. G. and Aliss Evans, of New Plymouth, nave gone on a visit to Nelson. Airs Hamilton, of Christchurch, and her two small children are staying with her sister, Airs Howie, at present. Air and Airs de C. Drury, of Hamilton, have returned home, after a month’s holiday in Auckland. Aliss G. Roberts (of Dunedin) is visiting her sister. Airs Alacandrew, at Linwood, Christchurch. On Wednesday evening- a presentation was made at the Napier Telegraph Office to Air Charles Plank, who has been moved to Wellington. It consisted of a Gladstone travelling bag. and Air Harrington, on presenting him with it. on behalf of the staff, said it was a token of the esteem in which Air Plank was held, and hoped that it would remind him of his many friends in Napier.
