COLONEL CODRINGTON AND CAPTAIN SELHEIM'S EXPLOIT AT MODDER RIVER.
At the Modder River figtit, Colonel Codrington, Captain Fielding, of the Ist Coldstreamis, with Capjain Selheim, of the Queensland Permanent Force, and two dozen men, forded the river on the right, Iteing made targets <>f the whole time, and when they reached the other bank the Hotchkiss was turned on them. They were not supported, and had to retire. On t'he return passage the river being very swift and up to their necks, two of the men were nearly drowned.but the party joined hands, and tied their puttees together, and the bank was reached safely.
