NAPIER.

Dear Bee, November 17. Some artistic and successful lantern views were shown at the Theatre .Royal on Friday, the 101 b inst.., in aid of Trinity Church, under .the skilful management of Mr Bissell, of Clive. Perhaps the best, pictures were those of Windsor Castle, the Tower of London, and portraits of various celebrities. Others deserving special mention were some scenes of London, street life. The views were accompanied by a varied selection of vocal and instrumental music by Mesdnmes Gardiner and Prime, Miss Bissell, Messrs Slade and Neilson, and the Rev. W. G. Parsonson. The performance was attended by a large and appreciative audience, and a. large sum was realised for the fund for which it was organised. A variety entertainment., consisting of a farcical comedy entitled “My Lord in Livery,” some skirt dancing and vocal and instrumental music, was given at the Town Hall, Dannevirke, on the evening of the Prince of Wales' Birthday by the Cycling Club. In the farce the parts were excellently filled by Mrs Burmester, the Misses Jessie Scrimgeour and Henderson, and Messrs Hill, Simpson, Weight., and Master A. Tansley. Mr Dumaresq’s brilliant violin playing was heard to great advantage in a solo by Hans Sit.t. Mr J. Lloyd’s powerful voice was, as usual, greatly admired, and his rendering both of “Sons of the Empire" and “Sons of the Sea” evoked the heartiest applause. “Never to Know” and “The Sleeping Tide” were rendered in the most charming manner by Mrs Walsh. One of the greatest successes of the evening was scored by Miss Henderson. “The Old Cremona” was admirably given by her. accompanied by Mr Dumaresq’s violin obligato. Miss Dolly Barsby assisted with a pretty skirt dance; and Messrs Peyton and Weight amused the audience much with one of their humorous character duets. Miss Sutherland gave “The Last Shot" most spiritedly. Two stirring songs were further contributed by Mr Boskiug. The concert was well at tended.
