OBITUARY

Profound regret was felt in Nelson when it became known on Thursday morning that Mrs Pitt, the wife of Col. Pitt, had died suddenly of heart disease at her residence on Wednesday evening.

Mrs Pitt had been in her usual health ail the day. and was driving in town with her daughter and visiting friends. The evening was spent at home. Just before retiring for the night she complained of feeling dizzy, and at once became unconscious and expired in a few minutes. Mrs Pitt, though a native of Tasmania. was a very old resident of Nelson, and was well known and beloved by rich and poor. Her kind actions will ever be remembered by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed both in social and religious circles. She was always an ardent church worker and a regular attendant at divine service at the Cathedral. Very great sympathy is felt with ColVery great sympathy is felt with Col. Pitt, his daughters, the Misses M. and G. Pitt, and his son, Mr W. B. Pitt, who is at present stationed _;t Java in the employ of the Eastern Extension Cable Company. All flags in the city were at half-mast. The funeral on Friday afternoon was very largely attended. Six members of the Nelson Rifles, in uniform, acted as pall bearers. There were also present the Mayor and City Councillors, and representatives of the volunteers, the local bar, the Board of College Governors, and leading citizens. Numbers of beautiful wreaths and flowers were sent by sympathising friends.
