Dear Bee, April 12. A surprise party was got up by Mrs Marks and Mrs Jack Matson on Thursday night. All the guests arrived at Mrs Louisson’s, in Gloucester street, at a quarter to eight p.m. The hostess was much surprised, but in a" very short time the dining-room was cleared ready for dancing, supper was set in another room, and at 8.30 p.m. dancing began with great spirit, and kept uip till 2 a.m.

Mrs Louisson wore a handsome black satin; Mrs Marks, a black corded silk; Mrs Jack Matson also wore black; Miss Cook, a pretty yellow silk; Miss B. Louisson, a blue bengaline; Miss McLean, white glace silk dress; Miss McClathie, pink silk; Miss L. Louisson, white muslin, wth lovely insertion over blue silk; her sister, a similar frock over pink silk; Miss Nelson (Sydney), black satin; Miss Graham, pink; Messrs Graham, Reid, Frankish (2), Louisson, Haskins, H. Henderson, etc., etc.

A farewell concert to Mrs Westmaeott takes place on Thursday night, and promises to be a great success. Dr. and Mrs Palmer left for Sydney on Friday' last, and with them Mrs Lee and Mrs Ogle, the former being far from well; but we all hope to hear a good report from Dr. Palmer on his return baek to Christchurch.
