LAWN TENNIS.

WEST END CLl’B. Last Saturday being the closing day of the season was celebrated in great style at this popular club. The bachelors of the club entertained their guests regally, and everything was done for the comfort of the visitors present. The president Mr James Kirker. announced the closing of the lawns, and acknowledged on behalf of the club and the committee their great indebtedness and gratitude to the honorary members, without whose loyal support the club affairs could not possibly have been brought to the present successful issue. While thanking all who had helped the West End Club tn the past, Mr Kirker ventured to express the hope that they would continue their interest in and their patronage to the club in the coming year. Before distributing the prizes Mr Kirker announced that the season would terminate with a club dance to be held on Tuesday, May 23. Mr Kirker then presented to the successful players the trophies won at the various club events, as follows: —Ladies' championship —Trophy presented by Mr Kirker, Miss E. Whitelaw. Gents’ championship—Trophy presented by Mr Kirker, Mr A. Brabant. Ladies’ handicap singles — Trophy presented by Mr Kohn—Miss E. Whitelaw. Gents' handicap singles — Trophj presented by Mr C. J. Parr—Mr Joo. Peacock. Ladies' doubles—Trophies presented by Mr P. Darby, Mrs Gentles and Mrs Newell. Men’s doubles—Prizes given by Messrs J. Caldwell and G. H. Baker, won by Messrs J. and J. Peacock. Combined handicaps—Prizes presented by Mr A. Goldie, won by Mrs Newell and Mr Brabant. The winners were heartily applauded and congratulated, and on the motion of Mr Brabant three cheers were given for the president.
