Be kind to the Emperor; do not adTo l.is deeds in a critical tone; With language whose satire is likely to hurt, In youth you had faults of your own. Allowances make for sweet charity's sake. When his mood with dismay you behold, Remember, if he some new notion should take. That he's only just 40 years old. No doubt he’ll be docile when time has passed by With its gentle and mellowing touch; The mvenile impulse at tangents will tty Ai.d you mustn't be asking too muct So, consider, when prudence is given its leave And language flows forth uncontrol led In a way that must cause the judicious to grieve. That lie's only just 40 years old.
