Captain Ward. A.D.C. to the Governor arrived in Wellington last week.

It is announced that Mr W. Burton, of the B.N.Z. at Suva, is now an M.L.C. of Fiji.

Mr R. T. Walker, editor of the Hawke's Bay ‘Herald,’ is going to vacate the position he has filled so ably for some years. Mr W. Dinwiddie will, 'tis said, assume the responsibility.

Mr J. Thompson, of the Lands and Survey Department. Auckland, has been presented by his fellow officers with a handsome wedding present, in view of his approaching marriage. The Commissioner of Lands, Mr G. Mueller, made the presentation.

The Rev. H. D. A. Major, who is leaving St. Mark’s, Auckland, for Waitotara, was last week presented with a purse of sovereigns, accompanied by an appreciative address, acknowledging Mr Major’s valuable services to the parish.

Mr Maleolm Niccol will once more be a candidate for Parliamentary honours at the general election. He will, it is said, contest the Eden seat.

Before Mr and Mrs Hogben left Timaru for Wellington they were entertained by some 200 pupils and ex-pupils of the establishment with which they have been so intimately connected. They were the recipients of some handsome farewell gifts—a silver bread-plate from the teaching staff, a dinner gong from the girls, a set of carvers from the boys, and a splendidly mounted dressing - case from the old pupils.

Mr .1. A. Hanan, some time Mayor of Invercargill, will contest the seat for his native town at the next election.

The Rev. A. Peters, of St. John’s Wesleyan Church, Auckland, who leaves shortly for Rangiora, has been presented with a souvenir Bible, handsomely bound, as a mark of gratitude on the part of the congregation he is quitting.

Mr E. E. Parsons, of the New Zealand Insurance Company, has been appointed to Shanghai, and will leave Auckland at an early date.

Miss Western. ‘The Lindens.’ who has been visiting Mrs Nancarrow in Dunedin, returned to Picton this week, having enjoyed her visit immensely.
