OBITUARY.

News of the somewhat unexpected death of Mr W. H. Shakespear. J.P., comes from Takapuna, where he resided. though his business premises were in Queen-street, Auckland, where he has worked for many years. Mr Shakespear was a well - read and intelligent man. taking a keen interest in all the questions of the day. He has been suffering from various causes for some time. He was buried on Tuesday morning at O’Neill’s Point cemetery. He leaves a widow, but no children. It is with much regret that the death is recorded of Mr Edward Elworthy. of Holme Station. Pareora. which occurred suddenly on Sunday morning about 2 o’clock. Mr Elworthy had suffered from heart dis ease, but only took ill on Saturday night, when in a few hours it proved fatal. Though a resident of South Canterbury. Mr Elworthy and many members of his family were well known in Christchurch, and had hosts of friends. The deepest sympathy is felt for Mrs Elworthy and the family, three sons and four daughters. The eldest daughter is married to Mr Melville Jameson, of Ceylon, and was over a short time ago on a visit to her parents. The death was announced last week, at Kaiwaka. of Mrs Gibbons, a much respected settler of that locality, at the age of 84. Mrs Gibbons was born in Penzance. Cornwall, and was well educated. Her husband, the late Mr Francis Gibbons, had some standing in educational circles in England, and later on. in Auckland. Mrs Gibbons built last year a handsome residence on her 4<>-acre section at Kaiwaka. though she did not long enjoy its possession. There were many beautiful wreaths and flowers at the funeral, which took place at Hakaru. Mr G. F. Linnell. J.P.. lay reader, conducting the service. The funeral of the late Mr Tracey Hall, of Auckland, took place last Saturday afternoon at the Purewa cemetery, it having been decided not to send the body to Melbourne to l»e buried there, as was first suggested. The deceased, who met his death three weeks ago by drowning in Lake Takapuna, was attended to the grave by ail of his personal friends who could leave town, also by representatives of various musical societies and of the warehouse (Messrs. Sargood. Son and Ewen) where he worked. Pastor Clark (Baptist Talx*rnacle) read the service, speaking warmly of Mr Tracey Hall's geniality and general willingness to assist all public charities, also of his many good qualities. The menil>ers of the Liedertafel sang a hymn. Beautiful wreaths wen* sent, amongst them being one from the Auckland Banjo Club and one from the Liedertafel.
