GRAPHOLOGY OR PEN PORTRAITS.

Any reader of the “ New Zealand Graphic” can have his or her character sketched by sending a specimen of handwriting with signature or “ nom de plume ” to MADAME MARCELLA, “Graphic” Office, Auckland. The coupon appearing on the first page ot cover of the “Graphic’’and twenty-four penny stamps must accompany each letter. BARLEY' CORN. A character of unusual selflessness is displayed in the sloping, but not descending, writing of your specimen. In the softly rounded finals, I read that you are also courteous, gentle and considerate. Your temperament is slightly impulsive, but the impulses are kindly and genial. You are bright and hopeful, and although exceedingly sensitive you are not easily depressed, generally look on the sunny side of a question, and never go across the bridge to meet trouble. You possess a keen sense of humour, and enjoy society as you converse well, and if not a" musician you are fond of melodious music. In discernment and observation you are rather deficient. Y’our ideas flow rapidly, and you infinitely prefer thinking the best of both motives and actions, to critical judgment. Your temper is good, your disposition almost, too easy-going: you receive impressions and comprehend quickly; but you are more practical than imaginative. Your will is not powerful, but there is latent firmness and control of self in the down strokes and closed letters. Neatness and cultivated taste are perceptible, and if your energy be neither restless or superfluous, you persevere steadily, making it a rule to complete one thing before you commence another. I have examined your specimen most carefully, but I must confess that my utmost graphological knowledge is unable to detect any further faults than those arising from an extreme dislike to contention and an equally strong desire for harmony and peace. MARCELLA.

SOCIAL PEST. —Industry, activity and mental energy are indicated by your handwriting. I think you are very independent, shrewd, practical and matter of fact The fanciful caprice which sometimes accompanies a fertile imagination simply annoys and irritates you; your judgment is founded on observation, and guided by sober common sense. ■ Nevertheless you make up your mind without hesitation, and your will is so strong that it is not an easy task to induce you to change it. The capital M and general upward tendency of the writing tell me ’that y'ou are not deficient in ambition; but from other indications, I gather that your indifference to public opinion is too pronounced to have much desire to shine or excel. Love of rule is conspicuous in the crosses of the T’s; caution and prudence are visible in the brief terminals of some of the small letters; while the squareness of others denotes caustic severity of speech under provocation, and an impatient but not a passionate temper. Y’our affections are deep and strong rather than demonstrative, and Ido not detect jealousy. You possess a moderate share of self-esteem, but no personal vanity. Perseverance is well represented, and so is tenacity of purpose. Y’our tastes are economical, and you can guard a secret without difficulty, whether it be your own or only entrusted to your keeping.

-MARCELLA.

‘M RS TOTTIE TRAMPLETOE?"Distinct individuality is conspicuous in your handwriting, with so much clever orginality that I think if the specimen be in your ordinary style of caligraphy you must derive pleasure from a spiee of eccentricity. Your abilities are excellent; your mind is active; your whole character strong. You combine the advantages of a vigorous imagination and practical reason; while your self-reliance and independence of thought and action make it an easy matter for you to strike out a path for yourself, unfettered by the restrictions of conventionality. Y’our judgment is good, but severe. Y’our discernment and intuition are keen, and you read character

so well that you are difficult to deceive, and still more difficult to convince without positive proof. You are strictly just, but you do not lean to mercy’s side. Your temper is, naturally, hot and impatient, although your forcible will can control it with ease; and if you speak bitterly, under provocation, you retain your self-command and say no more than you intend. Y’our affection is also deep and strong indeed. I can detect no feeble characteristics. Y’ou do not lavish it indiscriminately, but once given, it is changeless. Of beauty, in art and nature, you are an ardent admirer; and I detect scientific and intellectual tastes. Y’our energy is greater than your perseverance, but you acquire knowledge so quickly that the deficiency is scarcely perceptible.—MAßCELLA.

‘SOMERSET.’—Your specimen of caligraphy displays a complex character by no means easy to delineate on paper, or, I should imagine, to understand in real life. To commence with, one trait which must be conspicuous, your temper is remarkably good. Throughout your specimen I can scarcely discover one sharp angle; and round letters and curves always indicate kindness and placidity of disposition; yet so many of your letters are distinctly separate that it is evident very few of the faults and imperfections common to human nature escape your observation. Mentally you criticise not a little, but you do not proclaim the results. You receive impressions quickly, and your capital S betokens both imagination and originality. Pride is very perceptible, but I do not detect, strong evidence of ambition, and you are too self-contained to be abnormally sensitive. You are fond of change and variety, and prefer occupations and pursuits which do not involve a great expenditure of energy, trouble, and perseverance; but the downstrokes are so firm that your will must be strong if you wish to exercise it. You possess an abundance of tact and savoir faire, and you are an adept in concealing your thoughts and sentiments. Y’ou can love well and truly; but you are the reverse of a general lover, and those who possess your affection are not always aware of the fact’, so perfectly are your expressions and feelings under your own control. Y’ou make few confidantes and consider discretion the better part of valour. —MARCELLA.

‘JOCK WARRAH.’—Geniality of temperament, frank good nature, and impulsiveness are all indicated by your handwriting. Y’ou are enterprising, courageous, and I should add, have an inclination to rashness and daring but for a sign which tells me you are inclined to be suspicious sometimes, although I think this trait is combined with another, and that is jealousy. Y’ou are very affectionate, exceedingly sensitive, and both imaginative and highly impressionable; you think and act with rapidity and without regard, to detail, unless in the subject immediately occupying your attention, and, although good sense is not deficient, • you scarcely give yourself time to put 2 and 2 together; hence I think it probable that your conclusions are sometimes faulty. Frankness and sincerity are conspicuous; you tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and hold cowardice and duplicity in equal contempt. You are active, both mentally and physically, resolute when you make up your mind, and as little inclined to be daunted by obstacles as you are to be intimidated by trifles. You appreciate praise and popularity, enter keenly into the spirit of fun and humour, and are neither capricious nor changeable in love and friendship. The small s gives proof of artistic taste, the large loops to many of the letters betoken musical ability or love of music.—MARCELLA.
