THE NEW ZEALAND WHEEL RACE.
The Christchurch Cycling Club’s meeting at Lancaster Park on Saturday last was attended by 3,000 people. The racing was magnificent. The following were the results: — Half-mile Handicap.—Sutherland, 1; Lyon, 2; Preece, 3. Time, Imin 3 2-sth see. There were 56 starters in this event. New Zealand Wheel Race, 50sovs. Two miles.—Sutherland, 1; Blade, 2; Thomson, 3; Stanton, 4. There were 47 starters. Sutherland won by a dozen yards. Time, 4min 35 2-sth sec. The race was won last year from scratch in 4min 52sec. Provincial Championship of Canterbury. Five miles.—A. R. Barker, 1; T. Clarkson, 2; R. Henry, 3. Twelve riders started. Time, 12min 40sec. The Multicycle Race was won by Barker and T. Clarkson from scratch. Mile Handicap.—E. ,1. Ritchie, 75yds, 1; H. Lyons, 60yds, 2; J. Wingate, 65yds, 3. There were 35 starters. Time, 2min 18 3-sth secs. Mr J. Woodroffe, the representative of the Royal Enfield Cycle Company, has decided that the 75-guiuea Challenge Cup sent out by the company for competition in New Zealand shall be competed for at the League of Wheelmen's Champion Meeting at Dunedin in March.
