Dear Bee. Decemlter U. One of the LARGEST GARDEN PARTIES ever give in Wellington was given by Mr and Mrs Tolhurst at their beautiful place in Grant Road last Saturday afternoon. There must have been about live hundred guests present. The day was not a very pleasant one. It was blowing a hurricane, as is usual on such occasions. The garden was looking in splendid order, roses of every description being in full bloom. Mr and Mrs Tolhurst received their guests at the foot of the steps leading on to the verandah. A band was stationed on the lawn, and played excellent dance music. It was a very pretty sight to watch the gayly dressed ladies dancing. I believe this At Home was given as a reception to Bishop and Mrs Wallis, and also to entertain the members of

the Synod. A delicious tea was laid in the dining-room, and was dispensed by a number of young ladies, who were kept very busy. Mrs Tolhurst was wearing a handsome blaek brocaded gown, trimmed with jet embroidery, and a jet bonnet with lace wingsand white ospreys; the Misses Tolhurst looked nice iu pale lemon muslin dresses, trimmed with lace, ami cream straw hats with yellow flowers and lace. Among the guests 1 noticed Mrs Wallis, in a cream and brown striped silk gown, with sleeves of white chiffon, and Horal toque: Mrs Adams, black and red shot silk gown, handsomely trimmed with jet embroidery, and toque trimmed with black chiffon and pink roses; Mrs Ashcroft, black silk gown and cape, and black and white lionnet: Miss Ashcroft, pale brown costume: Mrs Barron, black figured canvas dress, trimmed with electric blue silk, and pretty Ixmnet to match, with blue flowers; Miss Barron, fawn costume. and floral toque; Miss Ella Barron, a pretty mauve crepe dress, trimmed with siik to match, white hat with mauve riblxvn and flowers; Mrs A. At MR ROBERT PARKER’S ANNUAL CONCERT Aladame Carlton looked nice in a rich white eorded silk gown, handsomely embroidered with pearls: Miss Pownall wore a soft white muslin gown, finished with lace; there were several ladies in the orchestra, including the Misses Kennedy (2), Pilcher, Henry, Eliott, Gore, and Barbor. Miss Prouse, who played some of the accompaniments, wore pale blue silk and chiffon. The Governor’s party included Lady Constance Knox, who wore a bright green frock trimmed with white laee, Captain Alexander, Lieutenant Ward, and also two ladies, w’ho were strangers to me, one wearing a black silk gown, with white lace and bunches of violets on the bodice, and the other a black satin gown, with revers and trimmings of white satin under jet.
