Dear Bee. Novetnliei 12. A most delightful GARDEN PARTY was given last Saturday afternoon at the Hutt by Mrs E. J. Riddiford. It was a glorious day, and a great number of guests went out by train from Wellington. The garden was looking so pretty, with quantities of roses ami other lovely Howers. During the afternoon croquet and other games were played. A l>and played merrily on the verandah, and most delicious afternoon tea was laid in the dining-room, the table being with bowls of roses, [n the drawing-room I noticed masses of arum lilies and bright coloured rhododendrons prettily arranged in troth large and small vases. 'lost of the guests arrived at about 3 o’clock ami were received in the garden by Mr and Mrs Riddiford. Our hostess was wearing a handsome gown of sage green figured canvas trimined with passementerie to match, and a becoming black toque trimmed with chiffon and bunches of magenta stock. Among the guests I noticed Lady Buckley wearing a handsome black silk costume, and blaek and white bonnet; Mis Rhodes, blaek brocade trimmed with lace and beautiful jet embroidery, blaek and violet Ixninet : Mrs Duncan was wearing a beautiful English gown of blaek watered silk, the bodiee trimmed with mauve ehiffon. and stylish Ixinnet to match ; Mrs Baldwin, neat black and white cheek costume and black hat with tips and pink flowers ; Mrs AV. Johnston, handsome blaek corded silk trimmed with white satin under ehiffon, and jet Ixinnet with white tips : Miss Johnston, white duck costume and white sailor hat: Miss Ella Johnston, fawn canvas trimmed with lace insertion, burnt straw hat prettily trimmed with lace anil forget-me-nots; Mrs Napier Bell (Dunedin), blue tailor-made costume, fawn waistcoat, and blaek bonnet with red roses ; Mrs Alex.
