HUNTING.
(By
Onlooker.)
THE Pakuranga hounds met at Otahuhu last Saturday with the intention of going on towards Mangere, but as the weather turned out so un. pleasant (heavy cold showers constantly falling), Penrose became the rendezvous, as here volcanic soil prevails. There was not a very large gathering of hunters, only the most enthusiastic, who braved these stormy elements of hail and thunder. The ladies must be complimented on their courage in turning out in such weather Puss was drawn for round the base of Mount Smart, but, alas ! no find. About three o’clock the drag hounds were brought out, and a short drag of a quarter of a mile was indulged on the Onehunga side of Mount Smart, during which Oceola was seen having a hunt on his own account. Amongst those present were Colonel Dawson (the master), Mr and Mrs W. Bloomfield, Mr Feilding, Mr and Mrs McLaughlin, Misses Bull (two), Miss (Corn.) Taylor, Miss Tribley, Mr Dunnett, Mr Holgate, Mr J. Philips, Mr Burns, Mrs Kelly, Miss Phcebie Backland, Misses Gorrie (two). Miss Percival, Miss Roberts, Miss Rathbone, Mr Harrison, Mr Elliot, Mr Cotter, Messrs Gordon (two), Miss Peacocke, etc.
