Dear Bee, July 8. A SURPRISE EUCHRE PARTY of fifteen, taking with them prizes, etc., visited Mrs McGlashan on Tuesday evening, 6th inst, The unexpected guests were made very welcome by the hostess, and a very pleasant evening was spent. Mrs Hume carried off first ladies' prize—a pretty smelling salts Lottie, and Mr W. Hume was the successful winner of the gentlemen's —a pen knife. The boobies were Mrs McGlashan and Mr T. Kirk. Mr A. E Manning gave a pleasant whist party (Club) at * The Cottage ’ on Monday evening. The first of the series of dances came off at the Volunteer Hall on Friday evening, 9th inst. It being previously arranged that two ladies should in turn manage each dance, Mesdames Hume and Sare took the part of hostesses the first evening, and left no'.hing to be desired. Everything which could add to the pleasure and comfort of the guests was remembered, even the cosy corners, both for dancers and non-dancers. The hall looked bright with numerous pretty flags. The verdict on the floor was ‘just lovely,’ and the music delightful. The latter was very kindly contributed by Dr. Kenny, Messrs Drury. Harker, J. Edgecumbe, and Master Harris. The pianoforte playing of Master Harrir was the subject of general admiration.
