NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, June io. Last Thursday a most SUCCESSFUL CONCERT AND DANCE was held in the Midhirst Hall. Mr W. Cadzow, the well-known New Zealand tenor,' delighted the audience with several songs. Madame Cadzow also was much appreciated in her piano selections. The other performers were Miss Scott, Miss Rotson (Ngaire), Master Victor Theobald and Mr Reakes, Miss Mackay acting as accompanist. After the concert dancing was kept up with much spirit until the early hours of .the morning. On Tuesday there was a very successful entertainment at Lepperton, which took the form of a ‘ basket social.’ The hall, which was prettily decorated with tree-ferns, flowers, etc., was well filled. Musical items were contributed by Misses Campbell. Giddy, and Hall, and Messrs Giddy, Gollinge, Hall, Hellier, Holder, McKenzie and Purdie. After the concert the disposing of the baskets caused considerable amusement. The hall was then cleared for dancing, when Messrs Lepper and Purdie acted as Masters of Ceremony. Mesdames Campbell, Crowe, C. N. Lepper, Misses Campbell, Hall, and Paul are to be thanked for superintending the arrangements so well. Last night several went from town to a dance at Mid-

hirst, where they thoroughly enjoyed themselves, as one always does at the dances there. Mr and Mrs R. J. Allen, also had a large PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE PARTY last night at their residence in Devon-street. The first prizes were won by Miss N. Webster and Mr Hull, and the booby prizes by Miss Stanford and Mr J. Stanford. After a most delicious supper we danced until about two o’clock, when we all went home after one of the most enjoyable evenings we had spent for a long while. During the evening songs were contributed by Miss Campbell, Messrs Rowe, Taylor and Dr Walker. This evening THE WHITELY HALL was opened with a tea meeting and soiree. This hall, which is the old Wesleyan Chapel moved, is named after the Rev. John Whitely, who. with some of his family, was massacred by the Maoris during the war. The Mayor, Mr J. B. Roy, occupied the chair, and was supported by the Rev. C. H. Garland. A pleasant evening was spent with music and interesting reminiscences of the Rev. John Whitely. Songs were contributed by Mrs Shorney, Misses Campbell, Ramson, Collis, Messrs W. and A. Gray, J. Veale, a duet by Mr and Mrs G. H. White, violin solos by Mr Cooke and Master J. Garry, a pianoforte solo bv Miss Haise, and a recitation bv Mr Blyth. Edna. Dear Bek, June ii. Mrs Allen gave a most ENJOYABLE EUCHRE PARTY at her residence. Miss N. Webster and Mr Hull were the lucky recipients of the first prizes. Cards were played until twelve o'clock, then the guests adjourned into the supper-room, and the table looked very dainty and pretty with all its numerous dishes. After supper music and dancing were carried on until 2.30 a.m. Mrs Allen wore a handsome black silk ; Mrs Roy, yellow silk; Mrs Warren, black; Mrs Govette, black satin ; Miss C. Bayly, white ; Miss Haise, pink blouse trimmed with black velvet, black skirt; Miss Stanford, black ; Miss Dalziel, black trimmed w'ith green satin ; Miss Fookes, white; Miss Corrigan, pink blouse, fawn skirt; Miss Hammerton. blue silk blouse, fawn skirt; Miss Tuke, black and old gold trimmings ; Miss Campbell, pink silk blouse, black skirt ; Miss O. Tuke. black trimmed with red ; Miss Hursthouse, green velvet blouse, black skirt; Miss Webster, black velvet; Miss Hurst, black and white ; Miss Rochfort, white blouse, black skirt; Miss Deveuish, black. Messrs Allen, Clarke, Govette, Taylor, Rowe, Dr. Walker, Messrs Tuke, Cornwell, Wood, Barnard, Hull, Thomson, Rov, Spencer, Stanford, Lusk, Fookes, and Broard.
