GOLF.
ladies' and gentlemen’s foursomes. This match was played on Thursday afternoon on the Green Lane links. The ladies turned out in great force, and much interest was taken in the competition against • Colonel Bogey.’ The winners proved to be Mrs George Bloomfield and Mr H. Gillies, who finished 10-up on the ‘ Colonel.’ Mrs Bloomfield is a much-improved and improving player, and Mr Gillies should blossom into one of our best players, his style being good, and very sure. The best gross score of the day was returned by Mrs Colbeck and Mr Grimshaw, but owing to the peculiarities of the ’Bogey’ score, they only tied for second place with Miss George and Mrßurness. This tie will be played off on Saturday at one o’clock. Mr Murdoch, President of the Golf Club, presented the prizes to the winners in a neatly-worded speech. The lady’s prize was a handsome gold bracelet, and that of the gentleman a silver match-box.
