BLENHEIM.

Dear Bee, April 21. Last Saturday Miss McCallum entertained a number of friends at • Waterlea,’ at which Mr and Mrs Orr were the special guests. for Mr Orr is shortly to be moved from Blenheim, thongh his ultimate destination is not yet known, and he will be greatly regretted. Tennis was played, but the wind was too chilly to admit of the non players sitting on the verandah, and, whilst watching the players, enjoying their afternoon tea, so a migration to the diningroom was necessary, where that cheering beverage was partaken of. On Saturday evening a SOCIAL, hurriedly organised, was held in Ewart’s Hall, at which a presentation was made to Mrs Charles Redwood from the ladies of Blenheim, who, with her family, leaves for Queensland next Thursday. The idea originated with Mrs Sutherland McAlister, who, with characteristic energy, not only got out the subscription lists, but collected most, if not all, of the money herself. The purpose was to buy some memento and have it suitably inscribed, but I understand (I was unfortunately nnable to be present) that a cheque was presented, with the understanding that the recipient would purchase something herself. The weather that prevailed for a few days before Easter was what may now be called regular Easter weather—cold southeast wind, accompanied by at first heavy rain, thongh, fortunately, this did not last long enough to swell the rivers. This all cleared olf, and Easber Monday, both in Blenheim and Picton, was a glorious day, thongh Wellington was not so favoured, consequently very few excursionists ventured over.
